I just got a call from Frontier to interview March 23rd. She also said that they will be interviewing every Mon/Tues thru the month of April. I got called off of the online app you can do thru thier website. But I also Know 2 people there but that wasnt taken into consideration when they called. My qualifications were...

Total time: 7456, Jet:2670: Turb Pic: 1605, Type Rating: A320,SF-34, SA-227, 2300 in the B737, 250 in the A320

Good luck to all

that is refreshing... sort of

did those that you knew write you a letter to include with airline apps thing, or did you just put down in the addendum that they referred you?

F9 Schedules

Hey F9 Driver-

Thanks for all your input and news on F9. Just curious what the schedules are like there...Are there many different choices depending on what you like to fly? Are there set schedules that you can bid on like 4 on, 3 off, etc... How about overnights? Since F9 essentially runs a hub and spoke system, are there also out & ins available that get you back home in the evening? How about days flying vs days off and reserve....

Thanks again!

Mdojet I would repeat the same question as it is of much importance - did someone write you an LOR or in any way "carry in" your resume? Did you put Frontier people down as references on the online app.? Some of us are trying to find some examples of people getting interviews w/o LOR's and you could be an encouraging story!

F9

Reepicheap,

They're definitely calling people w/out LORS....I know no one at F9 and am scheduled to interview soon. Keep on trying and get ready for a call! Best of luck to all...will let you know how it goes!

Glassairplt...

Congrats on the interview! What are your quals if you don't mind?

Schedules at F9 are bid on each month, are set by scheduling, and published in a bid packet, and on line, for seniority based bid.

They range from 20 days out of the 30 day bid off doing east coast turns (DEN-FLL-DEN is 8.0 hours block) to 12 days out of 30 doing standups (from beginning of duty to end of duty is less than 14 hours, and you get less than min legal rest in a hotel (DEN-MCI around 1.0 - 7 hrs in a hotel - MCI-DEN) and everything in between. Two day trips pared back to back. Three and four day trips with between 13 and 18 days off out of the 30 day bid period.

Reserve is 10 days off out of 30, and a 90 minute call out.

We are paid salary.

Hope this helps all ya'll:)

Good Luck

It was stressed in my interview that we were there because of LOR's, but I have heard from some lately saying they were getting the call without an LOR.

Basically no other point except to keep trying, and wishing everyone good luck.

Quals

F9 Driver -

Thanks for the info! Keep it coming....it's good to have someone to answer all of our questions :-) We'll all owe you a few beers when/if we get on property! Anyway, here are my stats: roughly 4000TT, 2450 TP PIC (all mil), no jet except mil student time. Filled out computer app approx. 1 week after it went online. Hope it helps....

Does anyone think it will help to call or even fax them a resume as well as do the online app? How about stopping by to drop one off personally? One more...if i was to jump seat on F9 would it be out of order to ask their pilots for a letter of rec or is that something that should be done after they ride on us. With that, is one time riding enough to ask for a rec or should you wait until after a few times with the same pilots?

OK, enough for now...thanks for all your help...can you tell i am anxious to get onboard!!!

I got a call for an April interview without an LOR. All I had going for me was the online app. I hope this answers some questions out there.

Just my opinion, but getting LOR's from riding the jumpseat with strangers is exactly why the whole LOR craze is so frickin' bogus! If that's really what it takes then I guess I don't have the "right stuff". You either know someone who's flown with you and will vouch for you or you don't. If it's Alaska or AWA then tough luck I guess. With Frontier at least it sounds like you have a chance without one. So please don't poison the whole process for the rest of us by getting a phony one.

Hope I didn't step on anyone's toes, but that's the way I feel.

There is'nt an F9 pilot who will submit an LOR w/o putting their reputation on the line. Accordingly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with passing your resume on to a pilot in the hopes it will help your chances of getting hired. I've personally recommended one pilot whom I had never flown with and HR told me it was one of the best interviewees of that day. There are many ways to know if someone is going to be a great employee/pilot for your company without actually having flown with them. The pilots experience, record, work history and prior recommendations can more than vouche for their ability to fly well. There is also weight given to attitude, personality, and several other important characteristics of an individual.

I passed my resume along to F9 pilots on my jumpseat and when jumping on F9. They all accepted it graciously and I still did'nt get called. Persistence paid off and I got an interview on my own by keeping in contact with F9.

I would not encourage anyone to phone or fax HR, the chief pilot, or anything that would try to circumvent the system as that is highly frowned upon from what I've heard. F9 is very busy right now with a system in place. The system works and, I believe, all qualified candidates will eventually be considered with or without an LOR.

reepicheep and crashpad...

thanks for the info, i think i will just sit back and let the online process take its turn. I really don't want to upset the wrong people.

I was called last week and when I called back she told me to call in 2 weeks to schedule an interview. It was out of the blue because I don't know anyone there. I just sent a resume a year ago and updated it 6 months later. I did the online a few weeks ago, but the impression I got is she called based on my resume. Miracles do happen.

ReepiCheep-

On the applicatoin, I put that I knew 2 people. They walked my stuff in well before I filled out that app. Not sure if they had any impact on me getting a call. I also emailed a coverletter and resume to Christopher Fair(chief pilot) and to Jim Winders. Also, told that they do not want people walking in to drop off resumes(not many airlines do). Also, I would never ask a stranger, when jumpseating to drop off a resume. And if someone asked me to do it while they were jumpseating, I wouldnt do it unless I knew them well only because its my reputation and credibility on the line. For what its worth, I just got my type on the A320 back in November and current on the airplane with about 250hrs. I have flown the B737 for about 2300hrs.

Things have changed since I jumpseated with them. Back then offline pilots would get to sit in the cockpit and the crew got to know a little about you (kind of like a mini pre-interview).
My suggestion was a little out-dated. Fortunately it sounds as though everyone has shot.

You got that right....LOTS of things have changed since you jumpseated with them. I remember just a few short years ago, my friend at Frontier was sitting RSV right seat on a beat up 737. I was flying for a regional on the east coast, but commuting to DEN. We were both hating life, him - the airline, me - the commute. I asked him if he would recommend that I put in an app with Frontier...he said, "Heck no, if you want to live in DEN, go for UAL, even Whisky has better work rules and comparable pay."

Now, less than 3 years later, he is a bid capt. on the Airbus, loving life. I'm kicking myself in the butt, asking myself why I didn't go after F9 back then. I'm trying now, but I don't have quite the resume that some of the above new hires do. All I have going for me is my friend there and about 700 hours in a 737.

Who new? Congrats to the guys who saw the light before I did.
