Frontier gets ok to fly from LA to Cabo
By Rocky Mountain News
September 12, 2006
Frontier Airlines has received final federal approval to fly between Los Angeles and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, nearly a year after it applied for authority to serve the route.
The Denver-based carrier will start flying between the cities Dec. 9 on Airbus A319 planes, offering introductory fares as low as $198 roundtrip, not including certain taxes and fees. Tickets are on sale now.
The new service represents another move by Frontier to expand outside its Denver-based hub and enhances its offerings in Los Angeles. The airline recently added nonstop service between Los Angeles and San Francisco and has rapidly added service to Mexico in recent years. In addition to the new L.A.-Cabo route, Frontier will start several other new routes to Mexico this winter.
The U.S. Department of Transportation said Frontier "will have a positive impact on the overall level of competition, not only in the primary market, but also in the Los Angeles-Mexico market, as well as in the overall West Coast-Mexico market."
