Well thank goodness.... I know this is probably old news but it is not surprising that the cash-rich Russians are buying the airplanes. Meanwhile, Frontier continues to add Q400s and E170s to the mix....

Thursday March 20, 4:45 pm ET Frontier Enters into Letter of Agreement with VTB Leasing for the Four Aircraft
DENVER, March 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Frontier Airlines Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: FRNT - News) today announced it entered into a Letter of Agreement with VTB Leasing to sell two of Frontier's 49 Airbus A319 aircraft and two of its 11 Airbus A318 aircraft to VTB Leasing for onwards lease to Rossiya Airlines. The sale of the aircraft was facilitated by SkyWorks Leasing. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.


"In January we communicated a revised capacity growth plan that was driven primarily by the unprecedented rise in the cost of fuel," said Sean Menke, Frontier President and CEO. "Part of that plan was to move forward with the delivery of the larger, 162-seat Airbus A320 aircraft while selling four of our existing aircraft, resulting in revised year-over-year growth of approximately three to five percent in Fiscal Year 2009. I am pleased to say with today's announcement we have taken another critical step in our cost-savings plan and we are on track to achieve those revised growth numbers."

except that f9 is not adding anymore 170's to the mix. they are sticking with 13 even though the deal was for 17.
 
Just a couple days ago at the JPMorgan conference Menke presented a fleet plan that showed 17 170's at the end of FY09, but who knows.

He doesn't seem to be as fond of flinging smaller jets all the way across continents as his predecesor, he's expressed the desire to keep them within 800nm.

We are witnessing an airline fighting for survival. Hopefully this transaction will appear on the 1q08 (4q08fiscal) balance sheet, because we are going to need it in a big way. Last quarter we had a record loss, and fuel was $10 less a barrel. I am very, very afraid of the kind of numbers we are going to report at the end of this quarter.

I would expect to see more airframes depart as long as oil stays near $100. They will probably continue to swap 319/18 with 320's to make it appear to be less damaging than it really is. We only are scheduled to receive 1 320 in fiscal 2009, so there definitely will be a fleet reduction if this path continues.
 
That's cool...bring on some extra dough...can't hurt. From what i understand, they had Airbus do a plane by plane analysis on performance such as fuel burn and mx expenses and such and they are selling the "dogs" of the fleet from that process. I guess if we have to sell some of them, at least they will sell the worst performers and the biggest gas guzzlers.

I'm still optimistic, i personally do not think we will lose any more, Sean said he doesn't think shrinking is the correct answer beyond what we are at.
 
Market cap is 91 million dollars -- time for JB to finally get those 319s.
 
Is it true that Frontier only have three month worth of cash now?

The whole airline industry is suffering big time.
 
I was correct by a co-worker....the correct amount of cash in the bank is $170 mil. I guess that should keep us alive for a couple more quarters :)

Mood is really good, great bunch of people :)
Just going thru a though phase of high oil price and route re-structure. Eventough we're selling 4 a/c, we'll be receiving a total of 3 A320 this year. HR told us 1 upgrade class and 3 newhire classes in 2008.

Mood is really good? While I will admit alot of people have the "frontier has been through bad times before" attitude, the current situation is like nothing this company has ever experienced before.

As for the aircraft sales and deliveries, we are receiving one more 320 over the next 12 months. Fiscal year 2009 runs April 2008 - March 2009. The company has sold and leased back 5 of the 10 q400 and sold 4 319/318's outright. I wouldn't be surprised if we ran newhire classes, but they will be for attrition, not growth.

I am not a pessimistic/negative person, and I REALLY want this place to survive. However, every Frontier pilot should be in the same "tactical" mode that the company is currently in, cutting cost and saving as much money as possible.

Pay attention to the next quarterly report. The aircraft sell off will help maintain the cash in the bank, but operationally, I wouldn't be surprised to see another $30 million loss.

I think that advice is appropriate for any airline pilot in the industry, especially the bottom 20% of every seniority list out there. Two airlines have ceased operations today and there will be others to come. Will F9 make it? Who knows, but they are doing everything they can to survive long-term and they have the right management in place to do it. A great product, excellent motivated employees, a new aircraft fleet, and some of the lowest costs in the industry doesn't guarantee anything anymore.
