We do packs off for every t/o. Other than that, i don't know about the engines.

I understood(perhaps in error) that the A319 had the same wing as the A320 and the A319 has a better power/weight ratio than the A320. I have j/s out of KDEN many times(in the back) on F9 and never noticed a packs off takeoff. Not contradicting you, just never noticed and I think I would have.

I hope F9 orders the most powerful engines available for the A320's. Brake fans are nice too when trying to do quick turns.

If you are making a packs off takeoff out of KDEN with a 5300 foot PA(std. day), it doesn't take long to reach 10,000 feet and a Cabin Alt. warning if you're a little slow getting the packs back ON(not that I personally have ever done that.) Just something important to consider when you are at your busiest.

On every takeoff I've performed with F9:

Before Takeoff checklist includes "Packs Off"

After Takeoff checklist includes "Packs On"
Pack 1 on at initial thrust reduction (1000' AGL)
Pack 2 on at flap retraction to zero
Never too busy to follow the checklist, but I've seen guys miss Pack 2 a few times.

Cheers

Mechanics already come equipped with those portable fans they plug in and point at the brakes during the turn. I always thought that looked funny.

So you are saying there is an option to have a fan attached to the gear and do this automatically?

Yep. They're nice too. Latching ON/OFF pushbutton on the center panel. They look like full wheel hubcaps. Very loud on the ground.

My Airbus manual says turn them on if any brake temp on the ECAM shows an arc above the temp, delay takeoff until all brake temps drop below 150 degrees then turn them off and go.

Having mechanics moving fans around manually without having direct ECAM access to brake temps seems like a less than ideal situation. Those brakes can heat up on long taxis in a heavy airplane. I've had to use them on taxi out a few times.

Do you guys ever run the packs off the APU, do a Bleeds OFF takeoff and then shut down the APU after turning the Bleeds ON after thrust reduction and flap retraction?

3000 AGL you get an ECAM if you forget one or both packs - or so I hear. Every normal takeoff is packs off aat F9.

No, the pressure bump when turning the packs back on is usually pretty mild if you do it on time. Well, I mean, er, I hear that if you delay much you get more of a bump. Anyway, the APU is off for takeoff.

This was the old procedure. Normal ops now is to shut down the APU after engine start. We now do "Packs Off" as others have stated.
