The kid is excited about a new career, and although he may have no idea what he's getting himself into, let him be excited about it. No need to sh** on his parade. His parade will get sh** on in due time at the hands of the industry. Let him enjoy the good while it lasts.
Posting his personal blog on the bitter-est of sites is kind of a dick move, though.
we all (or atleast most of us) felt like this when we started but 15-20 years ago we didn't have blogs, facespace, mybook and flightmofo to plaster our dorkiness out to the world.
The sad thing is it is hard to encourage someone to pursue a career that is slipping away more and more every day in its stature and long term viability. It kind of seems like encouraging someone to excel at riding a horse so they can one day be a rider for the Pony Express. The world has moved on.
Now if you want to encourage someone as a hobby pilot that is a different matter.
Its not a dik move but someone needs to sitthe kid down and give him the pros and cons and sacrifices and compromises. Then let him decide and hes made his bed and hell the. Sleep in it
