French Lawyer: I'll Defend Saddam

Saturday, March 27, 2004

PARIS — A French lawyer, known for defending terrorists and a Nazi leader, said Saturday he will defend Saddam Hussein.

Jacques Verges told France-Inter radio he had received a letter from Saddam's family requesting him to defend the former Iraqi leader in court.

The letter read: "In my capacity as nephew of President Saddam Hussein, I commission you officially by this letter to assure the defense of my uncle," Verges said. He did not name the person who sent the letter.

U.S. officials have said they will bring Saddam to trial for alleged crimes against Iraqi people. But the location of any trial and its format and date have not yet been decided.

Saddam is being held by U.S. forces at an undisclosed location.

Verges has defended Venezuelan terrorist Carlos the Jackal, whose real name is Ilich Ramirez. He gained international notoriety during the Cold War for staging a string of deadly bombings, assassinations and hostage seizures.

The French lawyer also defended, Klaus Barbie, a Nazi Gestapo chief in France in World War II, who was convicted of crimes against humanity in Lyon, France.

Saddam's counsel

This lawyer sure has the client list!

Does he get his clients through referrals or only through the Yellow Pages?

plus, someone's gotta defend the right wing nazis, right?

I'm curious, Vlad. In your wide range of experirence in history and politics, how were you led to link "nazi" and "right wing?"

hmm, let me see, last time I checked, bigotry, homophobia, separatism and denial of reality were all traits of the right wingers

TB:

Most classes I've ever taken and books I've ever read use communism and fascism to illustrate the opposite extremes of the political spectrum.

But what do I know, I have a degree in history from a college in the liberal Northeast?

Put down the Jim Jones liberal Kool Aid.

You're the one who needs to check again and stop drinking the GOP kool aid. The traits Vlad describes has always been traits of the far right. Read your history book again.

I think you guys are off the chain if you equate facism with the "right."

But I don't expect to make any headway in changing your minds.

I also don't expect you to have the freedom to express these views in many places outside of the US, either.

Be glad that your speech has not been identifed for repression, as religious speech has in many countries.

Timebuilder,

I don't think anybody is calling you or other right wingers on this board a fascist. All they are saying is that the fact is Fascism lies to the very far right of the political spectrum while communism falls to the far left. Obviously the left and right wing politicians in our country do not represent the extremes of either side.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I got the very distinct impression that some of the comments reflected the idea that the name "right" was associated with "nazi."

plus, someone's gotta defend the right wing nazis, right?

Curiously, the comment came up discussing a French lawyer defending Sadaam. The above comment would have described Sadaam as a "right wing nazi."

My point is that there are comments being made that are not only incorrect, but only serve to inflame and muddy the waters.

Ah, now I see. Sort of like when the right-wingers on this board call the left-wingers "commies."

Exaggeration. Nothing to get your britches in a tizzy about.

Nazis or National Socialists as they are called actually are extreme left wingers. Fascism is the ultimate goal of the Democratic Party if you listen to their rhetoric. They are for Government Control of industry, just like your deified "heros of the workers" Vlad.

There are only two differences between Nazis and Communists:

1) Nazis believe in private ownership, but government control of industry rather than government ownership and control of industry.

2) The Nazis were not as efficient at killing their citizens as Communists.

So Vlad, realize the man you share your screen name with is really just a Nazi that wanted to own industry as well as control it.

What does that make you?

It's in his DNC hatebook, err, handbook. Page 101. Never mind that Hitler was ardent left-wing socialist. The lefties are trained to label anyone who dares to disagree with them as a racist, sexist, homophobic nazi bigot. It's congenital.

Liberals HATE America.

Last time you checked with who? www.cpusa.org?

Yea, traits of right-wingers like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louie Farakhan? Or Robert Byrd (D-KKK) blurted out the "N-word" twice in a March 2001 TV interview. "There are niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time," Byrd told "Fox News Sunday's" Tony Snow. Or radical left-wing Julianne Malveaue who said that she hopes Clarence Thomas eats lots of eggs and butter and dies early. She must ne a right-winger with that kind of hate, huh? Oh wait, nope she's a democrat. How about Charles Wrangel who said the Klan doesn't wear sheets anymore, "they wear suits and talk about tax cuts." He must be a right-winger with all that hate. Nope, he's a dem who loves communist dicators.

How about Bill Lockyer (left-wing liberal attorney general for CA), who said last summer about the CEO of Enron Corp., "I would love to personally escort him [Kenneth Lay] to an 8-by-10 cell that he could share with a tattooed dude who says, 'Hi, my name is Spike, honey.' This is liberal hate speech (called tolerance by the left). A Democrat politician openly calling for an unpopular businessman to be raped behind bars.

How about Liberal psycho-lunatic Alec Baldwain? On Late Night with Conan O'Brien and worked himself up over House Judiciary Chairman Henry Hyde; "I'm thinking to myself if we were in other countries, we would, all of us together, all of us together would go down to Washington and we would stone Henry Hyde to death!" the Baldwin rant began. "We should go to his home, and we'd kill his wife and their children. We would kill his family!!"

So go ahead and give us all a lecture on how "tolerant" and compassionate liberals are. What a crock.

Liberals HATE America!

Outstanding post.

Thanks. It's easy to throw the Labels back in these left-wing fanatics faces. It's actually funny, Liberals are EVERYTHING they accuse the right of being. They are mean, vicious, hateful, greedy, cold-hearted, closed-minded, selfish, intolerant, bigoted and racist.... and they prove it every day!

Liberals HATE America!

I HATE Freight!

.

That would explain Hitler's lifelong obsession with wiping out communism (including attacking Russia and throwing communists in concentration camps.)

Now I understand. Thanks for correcting all those years of "liberal" education.
