Frances visiting Florida

Just weathered Frances in the Turks and Caicos. I've never seen glass flex that much before. She passed near North Caicos, and slowed before moving on. Most of the other operators down here moved a/c to Jamaica. We've been flying the crews around to sort things out. Man, it was spooky the following morning. No towers, no ATC, no lights, no navaids, no windsocks. We were blessed with no serious injuries or fatalities. Good luck to the Northern Bahamas and Florida.

Answered my own question....

According to the Daytona Beach Emergency Notification website, the planes were moved "to several locations in Alabama and Georgia by university instructor pilots. The Alabama locations are Anniston, Gadsden, Huntsville, and Montgomery. In Georgia, Rome was the destination."

Everyone says I'm so lucky to be away from the snow in Buffalo. Hurricanes are a whole different game. At least with snow it was still pretty much business as usual.

Maybe things are looking up. Frances is now down to a catagoty 2 hurricane with sustaned winds of 105 mph. Its forward speed has slowed to 4 mph, down from 13 mph just 12 hours ago. One TV station was speculating that maybe it's starting to fall apart. Just speculation of course, but that would be a good development if true.

I know that Piper used to be in Vero Beach. I don't know if they are still there, but did they get any damage from Charley? Are they likely to get hit by Frances?

They are still in Vero Beach. Ohio Unversity just put in an order for 7 new Warrior IIIs w/ avidyn (don't get me started on that). We are supposed to get them in April, but if they get hit (and it appears they will get all of it) it may be a year delay.

The riddle planes were flown out on Th morning and most were going to Alabama. Oh and we got rid of the mooneys a long time ago...we use arrows now instead.

Gee it doesn't seem that long ago, I must just be getting old.

Anyways heres to hoping something finally destroys McKay Hall. They should sell tickets to those who lived there in the past to watch it get ripped apart.

It will most likely strengthen again. The eye has reformed and the storm is reorganizing. It has also stopped moving and is just sitting about 80 miles of the coast. The eye has reformed at 70 miles wide and is shrinking, meaning the storm is strengthening. The pressure has dropped almost 8 mb since last night, which is some serious possibilty for getting back to category 3 quickly. If it doesn't make landfull until tomorrow morning like they are expecting, it has plenty of opportunity to become an 'oh sh*t' storm again. The thing is over 1000 miles wide and is considerably bigger (size not intensity wise) than Andrew. I got a few friends there so we'll see how they pull through. I'm more worried about the 10-20" of rain that is expected to fall on already fully saturated land in central florida.

My parents are over by Stuart, they lost power around 11AM today. I am up in SW orlando and we have been getting some bands for the past 3 hours. Did you happen to see Geraldo Rivera on FNC. They have him tied down with a rope so he does not blow away. My wife and I are on the ground laughing at him trying to report from FLL.
