Does anyone have any info on online schools that have a B.S. in avaition. I have a 2 year dgree but want to work on my 4 year. I need to do it online. Also, who gives the best credits for previous degree/experience. I have talked to Everglades Univ in Florida but not sure if they are FULLY accredited. Thank you. Sorry for the repeat on this site but was not sure where to put this.

I'd recommend studying something other than aviation, because, except for the Aviation Management degree, a degree in aviation is practically worthless outside of aviation.

Ther are MANY online courses available for other fields, that will take you farther, in case the aviation thing dosen't work out.

Unless, of course, you subscribe to pilotYIP's theory; then you're wasting your time getting a stupid degree. He's got buddies that flew B-29's in WWII or something like that, and THEY didn't need no stinkin degree.

Course, good luck getting getting any kind of job at the major level.

Oops, I see my high horse coming. Nevermind.

SIU is ok.

Riddle has their Professional Aeronautics degree which is completely online. They will give you 36 credit hours for having your commercial multi. Already having your two year degree means you would only need about 24 hours through them. You could knock that out in nine months as their semesters are only three months long. Also, online classes run about $190/credit hour.....peanuts compared to the full-time on campus tuition.

After that degree, get into a state online MBA program and your options become endless.

Where are you going to earn the money to get the MBA for all those endless oportunities? In aviation?? I got news for you. You are heading towards a brick wall!!....by the time you earn that money (if you ever earn it) you will not be thinking about getting a degree. You will probably have a lot in your plate.

Everglades University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), 2101 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 302, Arlington, Virginia, 22201. (703) 247-4212. Website information at www.accsct.org
Everglades University is licensed by means of accreditation by the Commission for Independent Education, Florida Department of Education. Additional information regarding this institution may be obtained by contacting the commission at 2650 Apalachee Parkway, Suite A, Tallahassee, Florida, 32301, toll-free telephone number (888) 224-6684, local telephone number (850) 245-3200, local facsimile number (850) 245-3233.

FSU's online MBA program runs around $8500 plus books. A couple of student loans will certainly take care of that. You don't have to have money to go to college.

School Sucks!!

I totally agree with gringo in that a four-year AVIATION degree is worthless. If you're going to spend the money use it on something other than aviation. Everything you need to know about aviation you're going to learn on your way up to your ATP. Get a degree in something Business related, so when you lose your medical cuz you can't afford anything other than fast food because of your Regional salary you can look into something else like starting your own business or the like. I just can't believe that people spend 100k+ to attend Riddle Univ. to get a worthless degree in aviation to get a 20K/ yr job. Oh well, to each his own.

I would actually recommend you guys not to get a four degree so that I have less competition at the majors; SO DON'T GO TO COLLEGE, IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!

another good one.

Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey has an Avaition tech aa and bs. They are fully accredited by the same regional accrediting body that yale and mit are a part of, so credits are fully transferrable if you desire. They give you about 30 credits for all of your ratings including cfi's and atp. They are good about taking transfer credits, clep exams etc. They cost less than Embry Riddle. You can do they full thing online or through the mail. web site www.tesc.edu

There is a good book that covers distance learning stuff. distance degrees. You can get it at the authors site www.collegeathome.com. It gives good info about prices, degrees offered, locations, and explains the difference between different accredidations. -kingaira90

PM me if you want more info on TESC.

Well if you really want your dreamshot, get a four year degree in mathmatics or physics. Then you can apply for the NASA program. No joke, I missed the deadline by six months due to age. Great program. Not everyone get's that on a resume'

Actually unless you major in a specific field like nursing or engineering a degree is a degree. Four year aviation degree or business degree will net you the same return. Just because you have a degree in Business Management doesn't mean you'll walk into management. In business you start at the bottom unless you know some one.

You can teach middle and high school with any 4 year degree. At most places the degree is a box that you can check. You can even go to law school with a four year aviation degree, just make sure you do well on the LSAT.

If you really want to move up in the corporate world work on your golf and tennis game, and schoomz you butt off.

My brother who works in IT management at a big big bank, gave me the same advice. He said most of the people he works with have a degree that has nothing to do with management or even IT. They could check the box. He told me just get a degree, the major doesn't matter, be able to check the box and that is plenty of backup.-kingaira90

I was in the same boat. I am finnishing up a Indiana University of continuing studies @ Bloomington. It is a B.G.S. and you can work on your degree online or print based. It is a real college! good luck!

There are many fields where you can start at the top with the proper skills.
Aviation is not one of them.

Buy some golf clubs, become a PGA pro. Then you can afford your own jet.

Alot cheaper than college!

Been watching too many DeVry Junior College ads? ;) You have to really specialize to start at the top?

You still with the feeders?

US Dept of Education

I was researching the same question not long ago. If you go to this link,

www.ed.gov

you can search for accreditation information. One easy way to figure out if its accredited or not is to find out if the school utilizes FASFA for financial aid. If they want to you use a "Sallie Mae Loan," then its probably not accredited by the HLC (higher learning commision) standard. I guess that this only really matters if you want to go on to grad school someday. If not, then you can basically just buy a degree from a college with a "state" accreditation.

Yes, yes, and yes.

My mom always told me I was 'special'.
I thought.....:bawling:

Not necessarily, always insist on a regional accreditation.

Yes, I'm still in the feeder too, just got back today from MIA. What's up........
We might do a SJU standby this peak before going to the ATR.

How about getting a degree in cosmetology?

Perhaps you should attend a job fair. That way you can get the opinion of the folks actually doing the hiring. There are mixed reviews on the job fair thing, but at least you can get the info directly from employers.

Getting the opinion of FI.com members is a good way to start, but I dont think most of us have the hiring guidlines of most majors.

If most majors are like the military, they have a list of "approved" educational institutions. I would feel really pissed off if I found out that I did not get hired b/c my university was not on their list.

Good luck!

I strongly recommend that you investigate Thomas A. Edison State College, Trenton, NJ (www. TESC.edu). I have a BS from these guys (in the 1970s). They have been in the distance education and experiential education business for more than 25 years and know what they are doing.

does anyone have any info on utah valley?
They fly Katana's out of Provo UT (class D). They also have a global aviation degree for the bachelor's degree if you want to fly where you're at. A former copilot of mine got his bachelor's through them, working off his notebook computer in a hotel room on layovers.
