Contact Your Elected Officials Now!

President Dave Ross urges everyone to contact their elected officials via CapWiz about the impending DHL and UPS deal. Please pass on the link to our CapWiz site to everyone you know - your friends, local activists, other ABX and DHL employees. The letters that have been provided can be edited for those who are not pilots. You do not have to sign on to our secure site to access the CapWiz site. If you do not want to use the sample letters that have been provided you can still use the site to find contact information for your state's Senators and House Representatives.

DHL has pushed my buttons of late, but I like working for ABX, it's people and the paycheck, even if ABX is providing great service for...them. It's a perfect site, exactly what I was hoping someone with the knowledge and tools would create. Thanks a MILLION! :D

actually capwiz has always been on 1224's website, I think it just got moved over to the public area. The union just flashmailed us the message that I posted

I am glad they opened that for people other than 1224 members. I just sent it out to coworkers, family and friends and asked the favor to please write. At least it can't be said we did not try if nothing changes.

Apparently if anybody's from Wisconsin, they can be especially effective. Seems their congressman is a committee chair for some high falootin anti trust sub committee or somethin. Don't know the exact details there.

(Not that I think we can change the course of events here, but it will be fun to slap them up a bit)

Wisconsin has two representatives on the Senate Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights – Chairman Herb Kohl and Senator Russ Feingold. The job of the Antitrust Subcommittee is to oversee antitrust law and competition policy, including the Clayton Act. Our issue is antitrust. Antitrust behavior is destructive to consumers for which we should demand action from our elected officials. Please send your Senators an e-mail and a fax. please follow up your letter with phone calls to the Washington office and local office - both. Follow-up phone calls are critical. Tell the aide you are a constituent and calling with regard to an antitrust issue.

Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) 202.224.5323 414.276.7282 / (f) 414.276.7284

Sample letters are on the 1224 site

Seems the campaign to stop the DHL/UPS deal has gained unexpected momentum in the political arena. It's time to pile it on.

Lean on Obama. He's already been briefed on this deal. Get him to make ILN a campaign stop. In this election year, tell him he could OWN the southwestern counties of Ohio if he gets on board to stop this thing.

Remind him Ohio is a swing state, and the southwest counties of Ohio, which normally go Republican, could give him Ohio's 20 electoral votes.... which could give him the White House.
( Kentucky, UPS's state, only has 8 electoral votes)

We can argue the merits of an anti-trust case till we're blue in the face. But even the lawyers will tell you that when politics get involved, all bets are off.

Just one point here. Sen Obama has taken huge campaign contributions from UPS and the Teamsters.

I doubt seriously he would take a position so blatantly against them.

Your one point is empty.
UPS contributes more to Republicans than Democrats.

41% to Democrats, 59% to Republicans

And taking a position against this deal is NOT taking a position against the Teamsters.
