Since you always rip on us for having our MX done in Canada and south of the border.

Delta Airlines will contract out heavy MX of four aircraft types- B757's and B767's to Air Canada Technical Services of Vancouver and MD-88 and MD90 to Avborne of Miami. It will account for 1600-2000 jobs that are to be shed from Delta's Technical Operations organization. It will bring in 300 jobs for Vancouver.

Thats just an exerpt form the latest Aviation Week and Space Technology.

While Miami may seem like a different Country it is still in the US.

So what will Delta do with all those Hangers?

TOC will still be used for in house mx including expanding the JT8D-219 engine line, expanding the Song conversion line, and creating two cabin refurbishment lines.

Don't feel bad, they have to wipe the blue juice off of their hands before they post.

a320driver,

I don't remember slamming you for outsourcing MX, rather slamming you for your great deal with Airbus. I knew we would eventually outsource, because pretty much everyone else is and it is cheaper. That is the deal these days, go cheaper. I don't know if that will mean a worse mx job, but it will be cheaper. That was bad news for our heavy mx folks, but it was expected. I think we currently do stuff with Aeromexico in Guadalarja (MD88s), and now we will be doing mx in Miami and Vancouver. I believe the only thing we will be transferring is the HEAVY MX, and the other checks will still be done by us. We also make money doing third party MX on the 738 for companies like BWIA, and Netjets and their BBJs.

Bye Bye--General Lee

On your six,

I wasnt being cocky. Just stating a fact. Hows that furlough going? Maybe you should go back to your bad a** B1.

I believe delta also does some contract work in ATL also. I saw a Fedex 727 in the hanagar this morning, and have seen a couple of World planes from time to time also.

General,

Why can some guys dish it out but not take any back? I wasnt referring to you either. Turn about is fair play. I have seen plenty of other guys not being very nice on this board. For me, its just a little ribbing. You guys rip on jetBlue guys non stop.

Wow, I don't post on this board often. But, that was inappropriate.

Classy. Reminds me of a line from A Few Good Men: "I'd rather you just said 'thank you' and went on your way."

I NEVER rip on Jetblue pilots. I rip on your policies that I think are ridiculous. And, as you know, I can take a lot of ribbing. I don't mind that. I also NEVER rip on a furloughed pilot like on your six. Is it his fault that he is furloughed? I wouldn't think so. Try to lay off that sensitive subject, because he may have kids and a wife and they are going through that too. You can slam me all you want, though. Again, I know guys that have gone to JB from a DL furlough and I thought that was a good idea. I just don't like how some of your policies and low E190 pay rate may affect the rest of the pilots out there.

General,

I dont like the 190 pay either but there is not much I can do about it as 75% of our pilot group wont do anything about is as they have no guts and wont stick together. Their attitude is "I got mine, screw you". I'm afraid that will come back to haunt them someday. As far as guys being furloughed, I am sorry about that. On your six took a shot at me so I took one back. Don't blame me because he took a shot at me and I responded.

Hey, atleast you admitted that most of your guys don't care about the E190 rates. That is obvious, and I hope that changes someday. As far as taking shots at people, there are some areas you might want to stay away from, since he had no say in the matter. Sometimes it is just about luck or lack of it.

Don't worry General.......in the near future all those pesky Jet Blue guys will be flying too much to respond on this board.....with their impending FAA waiver in their pockets...lol

Children.....

Play nice and share your toys.....OR ELSE!!!!

He who will be out of cash by December...or so they say

So let me get this straight... Delta is now outsourcing work to others because it's "cheaper" in turn other company's are outsourcing work to Delta for the same reason. Yea, this makes sense, I sure am glad that all these airlines are run by such talented people

Whole lotta estrogen in here today.

Must be getting warmer. Oh, Yeah! It is Summertime.

I am amiss how so much information can be gleaned from seeing a Fedex aircraft parked IN THE DAYLIGHT under a Delta Hangar Roof. Imagine that? Had the thaught occurred that hey, sometimes airplanes break at the outstation? What is cheaper? Two repositioning flights to cover the work of a heavy and have Mx completed at a company Mx base? OR, Pick up the phone and make a call to the local heavy Mx shop like there is in ATL and have those guys put a full staff to work who might otherwise have nothing to do that day? So, what if it happens to be DAL fleet Mx who is doing the work. I don't call that outsourcing, I call that common sense. If it keeps my overnight letters @ $13 a pop rather than $20, and everyone keeps their jobs and pay rates, SO BE IT!

Fedex flies at night and parks during the day. DAL flies (for the most part) during the day and parks at night. Schedules and MX may at times be compatible. heaven forbid.

Careful about drawing conclusions from underinformed viewpoints. Particularly when used to justify or support seemingly parallel arguments. They are just Apples and oranges my friend.
