We are supposed to do a shoot in a 172, how can we plug our camera into the intercom. IF anyone know thanks for your help.

DON'T.

No matter how you try to put a good light on GA, they will find a way to twist it into something dangerous.

The poor "groundlings" don't understand and never will.

At one of the Aerobatic contests that I attended it was covered by the media, they did a pretty good job with the article. But they pretty much just concentrated on the future Air Force pilot that was one of the competitors. That wasn't what the contest organizers were hoping for when they called from for a Press Day.

This has nothing to do regarding a story about general aviation. I am an RTV student as well as a student pilot, so I understand what is happening. But I do understand what you are saying about they always put a twist. I was just looking for a quick tip about getting audio from the intercom.

Man plunges to his death, film at eleven

Saw a newscaster say that once. I knew the guy. Before this story, I asked if he was interested in doing a shoot out at the drop zone...maybe even come out and do a tandem skydive. He said if I wanted to keep a freindship, not to ask again.

So anyway, a few months later, this monkey is on TV doing the top stories commercial for his channel and doing the "man plunges to his death..." thing. So as we were hanging around the DZ burning a bonfire and drinking beer after jumping was done, we tuned in the news. The death occured at a dropzone about 40 minutes drive from us and we knew the owner and jumpers there pretty good.

The news film footage showed a perfectly open parachute descending without input from the student, in a gentle slow turning spiral. The person landed dead. About nine days later, with no new follow up story on TV, I find buried in the second section of the newspaper, a story of how the man had a pre-existing medical condition and hadn't told the DZ about it when he signed his waiver. The cause of death was his aorta separated. Could have happened in his car on the way home from the DZ for that matter.

I then catch Mr. TV news guy riding on a golf cart at EAA and I go, "Hey dude...you did the 'man plunges to his death' story on the news and a week later they said it was a pre-existing medical condition...blah blah blah". He just gives me a funny look and guns the golf cart.

That's media for you.

Two ideas....

You could try an attenuating dubbing cord from Radio Shack with the appropriate 1/8" mono plug adapters to fit the jacks on the intercom and camera.

Or, probably the easiest thing to do is just put a lapel mic inside one of the heaphone cups, or if that's too uncomfortable for the wearer, use an unused headset and secure the two cups together with tape or a tie wrap so they will attenuate the cabin noise.

Old News

Although this has been posted several times before, the easiest way to record great sound is to take a pair of earphones (the ones that you stick in your ear-i.e. walkman, etc.) and place the ear peices in your ear cups and the other end will be pluged into the mike socket of the camera. Did this in Desert Storm one and a couple other missions and the video was great. Cheap, works, and lasts along time. Hope that helps! P.S. I used to haul the media around in a CH47 and without a dought, CNN guys and Helen were jerks!!! Fox guys and Gore, Bush I, Dole, Cheney, Quale, and Baker were great. Also, secret service are a pain in the but as well.

Intercom sound

If you want to do it right, you need a cord that will take audio from the headphone out directly to the audio in on the camera or recording device. Wiring one up shouldn't be too difficult; some place like Radio Shack probably has the equipment to do it, or possibly premade cords. Doing it this way will also retain stereo if your aircraft is wired in stereo. Great for music.
