You're right that they would have to keep them current, but they could keep them on the certificate and use them if they were. Still cheaper than putting them back on the payroll full time, where they company has to keep them current anyways. Ideally, they would just keep the staffing at a higher level, but management has other motivations than just the cost factor.

You don't want to start putting pilots on as contractors.
It is a very slippery slope that will set you back for years to come.

You might be right, but, like I said,...

This seems dangerous. If mgmt does this and likes it, then what would stop them from making all of the pilots contract? At this point they could fail to renew your contract out of seniority, or you don't get used as much as the next guy, and on and on.

I konw your intentions of getting work for the furloughed guys are good, but IMO this would make things much worse than they already are for you guys.

Although you and Hung make a good point about it being dangerous, or a slippery slope, they have used contract pilots in the past when starting a new fleet type, with no real ill effect. Of course that was before there was a union on property. So what I am really trying to say is that if financial reasons were managements only motivations, then using the furloughed pilots on a contract basis would be the honorable thing to do. I think that they have ulterior motivations behind keeping the staffing levels so low, and at this point, I don't really trust or expect management to be honorable either.

Anyways, my intentions are definitely to see the furloughed pilots get some work, so, until they're back, let's all help them out and continue refuse OT and discourage anyone else who does it.
