It was officially announced today. One more obstacle to a CBA removed. Congrats to the MEC for a job well done!
Here is an excerpt:
. . . We are very pleased to announce that on Friday, July 25, 2008, the matter of CANPASS as a condition of continued employment was satisfactorily resolved between the parties. While management may still require pilot applicants to have CANPASS authorization prior to being hired, or to obtain it by the end of the one year probationary period (to be included in the Collective Bargaining Agreement), once the probationary period has been completed, a pilot who loses CANPASS authorization will not be placed on an involuntary LOA, disciplined or discharged for doing so, so long as the pilot makes a good faith effort to maintain CANPASS and/or obtain CANPASS re-authorization. Pilots who do lose CANPASS must inform management as soon as reasonably possible and keep management informed of their efforts to obtain CANPASS re-authorization. . .
I hope this bodes well for the pilots who were "Riffed"
