Does anyone know if there will be aircraft staging out of Opa Locka again this year? Where are the Blue Angels going to be flying out of?

Also, I am going to try to go to the practice show on friday, does anyone know if people will be allowed on the beach in the show area or not?

Thanks!

Mostl likely you will be allowed on the beach for friday. But its the same old every year, last year was a disapointment when some of the jets did not even show up....

No more FLL

Staging area till about 2 years ago was FLL - what a blast! For almost a week FLL turned into an airbase, then they took it to Opa. I'm not sure if they're even doing that, I understand a lot of the aircraft actually fly down from their homebases (wherever they may be).

This year was supposed to be the last display of the F-14, it was the talk of the town but I don't see it on the schedule anymore (they mothballed it before the show perhaps?) I saw Fat Albert buzzin over downtown today.

Yes you can go to the beach on Friday, matter of fact, it's the same show without the million+ crowd hoggin for space. Sunday I'm goin with some friends and couple 6-packs on a boat, Intracoastal.

I am flying into Ft. Lauderdale Internation tommorow. Are there any NOTAMs associated with the show on Firday or Saturday morning?

NOTAMS.... yeah I know they close FLL for a certain period of time every year.

Goundpounder, hope to see you out there! I'll be there fri, sat, and sun!

I went out there today with a friend and watched the Blue's fly around for a while, and Fat Albert. While I was driving there I saw the Snowbirds landing at FLL, but it didn't appear like the Blue Angels were. I talked with a lifeguard and he said the beach would be open tomorrow, and there won't be very many people. I went on a saturday last year, and I am never doing that again.

Thanks for the info, all

Oceana 2005 was the last flight of the F14 to my knowledge. However Oceana 2004 was supposed to be the last flight and they kept it around for another year so who knows.

I called FSS and as of now there are no scheduled closures.

Well, they have been know to limit departures or arrivals during the Blue Angels and Snowbirds performances. The airshow airspace takes a portion of up to 5 miles of the outer class C airspace up to 5000 feet. I just saw the notam in my weather package.

I saw the Snowbirds at Lakeland yesterday. A better name for them would be the Lame Ducks! Pretty sloppy.

FYI the Blue Angels are flying out of Dopa Locka. Local 10 had a little blurb on them, and had video of them landing there. I'm going to head down there saturday and try to find a good spot to watch them launch.

The F14 will fly both days. Two passes. One high speed. One into the vertical with full afterburner. It is the last F14 demo. How do I know? Got drunk with the guys from the Tomcatters last night at Hard Rock!

Taking off for FLL right now.

Will Gulfstream be flying the B1900, EMB120, or both at the air show? I heard they will be a part of the Coast Guard rescue demonstration.

I went today, was pretty good. The F-14 did one kind of high speed pass way off shore and that was it. No F-22 or V-22, but I got to see Sean Tucker in a Lancair 400 doing mild acro. I also saw a F-16 do a high alpha pass, like the F-18's do. I didn't think it could even do that. Anyway, I am going to Dopa Locka tomorrow to see whats going on down there.

Great Show! Lots of illegals who b!tched about how crappy the show was. I thought you have to pay taxes and have legal rights to whine about airshows. Right?

Hey Groundpounder, I had my Banyan hat on! Yee Haw!

Do I know you? Who/what do you fly? PM me if you want. The view at Opa Locka was cool, most everything did at least one flyby when they returned for landing, and I had a good spot right near the runway.

Another good show today! Got good and drunk too.

GP,
You might know me.............I worked at Banyan a few years ago on the line. I also flew a CE550 with a boat company out of their for a while.

Yeah, we will be dropping poop bombs on your low-life undercutting $20 dollar-an-hour 70 seat RJ butt. How does it feel to know a GIA guy can sh!t on you?

The Hawker Sea Fury was a nice suprise, first time that beast particpated.
Made up for the fact that the v-22 didn't show up (expected that one i guess)
