Hey, does anyone know if a type from Flight Training International is good enough for SWA? They do all the training in the 737-200 instead of the 300. They're also quite a bit cheaper than K&S and Higher Power, only $6,000. I can stay in Denver for free, which will help out on the cost and I just want to make sure that this type rating will be good enough for SWA. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Also, if anyone has been to FTI, I'd love to know how you felt about the training. Thanks!!!!!

Any type is a type no matter where you go. I would go to the cheapest place available. Have you looked into Pan Am in Miami? I dont know what they charge or if they do individual types but worth a look.

Good luck

This subject has been visited lately in another thread... under the Majors section, scroll to the bottom and you'll see a thread titled:

SW - What are my chances? by AntiMatter

You can also do a search using the phrase FTI or Flight Training International and it will bring up every thread with those words in it which is pretty handy for also researching threads that have the words Southwest Interview in it. :D

Someone else might be able to tell you about which company is "better" from an HR standpoint at SW. I've heard that going to Higher Power "sometimes" puts you higher on the list when they're interviewing but while visiting LUV during last year's AIR, Inc conference, I was told that having the type from ANYWHERE is still going to get you the interview (I'm crossing fingers, toes, and anything else that will help).

My experience with FTI was fantastic, Shari was extremely helpful and everyone bent over backwards to help me with whatever we needed to get done. I haven't heard any real complaints about them although any company like this is bound to have a few horror stories... anyone else?

Our requirements do not state where or on what equipment the
B-737 type was obtained. I received my from Midway Airlines in the 80's in a -200.

While the -200 is on the way out at SWA, it still meets the requirement of having the type prior to attending class.

Your experience and interview performance is what secures the job.

SWA will teach you to fly the B-737 its way. While some may argue that HP (or other similar school) teaches SWA flows, I personally find little value in this justification. Others may disagree.

HPA

I went to HPA. No regrets. If you go to HPA it won't just be about getting the type. They will do everything they can helping you figure out where you are going and how to get there.

It's a great company with employees who genuinely want to take care of you.
