OK I'm bad with 'things', 'stuff' - occasionally misplace it always to find it a few hours later. Like tonight, getting ready for early am flight I couldn't find my wallet (Pilot certif, medical, drivers lic, coffee money).
Well it showed up but there was panic for an hour.

So, the jist of this thread is, what is a good contingency plan?
Besides being smart and not leaving stuff laying around in the first place...
what can a person do or have for plan B?
I found a passport, a temporary certificate and a medical certificate (both expired). Not much use but at least I could say I tried.
Once I laid my hands on them, I made quality color copies a (both sides) of all three important documents and filed in a memorable, safe place although I realize they do not meet the letter of the law. Its a long weekend so the FSDO would surely be useless right now.

It would be just my luck to get ramped with no wallet and I'd love to have duplicate medicals, certificate and drivers licence locked in the safe "Just In Case".

Any decent ideas??

When I use to fly for a 121 they had a plan B laid out for us in the manuals.

If you do lose your wallet, log onto the FAA website and you can request a temporary authorization. They will email it to you and you can print it out. It has your certificates and medical info and it's good for 90 days.

When this happens to me and the FAA asks to see my certificates, I've found it's best to point over their shoulder and say in a loud voice, "Good Lord! It's a rabid Siberian Tiger, and boy, does it look mad!"

Then when they turn to look, run the other way. This works better than you might think.

I withdraw my statement... ;)

Am I the only guy that keeps my critical docs in my kit bag? I figured since I never fly without it, I'll always have them handy. OTOH I've forgotten my wallet a number of times.

I have one of those new plastic pilot licenses which I keep in my wallet and I keep the old paper license in my flight bag. My medical stays in my flight bag. I figure I am more likely to misplace my wallet.

I also take digital photos of each page of my logbook, surprisingly on the computer, you can read the entries with no problem.

Just my .02 worth

That is a great idea!! I kept putting off copying my book because it is such pain. Saw your idea and just finished uploading the pics of my logbook to my hard drive. Thanks!!

I think I read you can get a copy of both from OKC if you lose them. Maybe I will 'lose' mine in a drawer somewhere. Same with the DMV card, then I will have backups.
I LIIIIKKKKE baackuups!

The certificate is easy, at the same time you request the temporary authorization on the website you can request a replacement permanent certificate. For the medical I had to write a letter to somewhere in Los Angeles with all kinds of crazy info in it.

It would be easier to just go to the doctor and get a new medical... honestly.

And I used to carry my certificate and medical in my flight bag... But now it's securely in my wallet since my flight bag has been stolen one more time than my wallet.
