Is 5 million a feasible amount to start or run a flight department with? IF so what kind of plane would be a could choice if that was your annual budget? With that kind of budget would fractional be a better option? I would not think that fractional would be the way to go.

Since the numbers are fresh I will give you a for instance...

Learjet 31A
Acquisition Costs $3,500,000.00

Total Annual Fixed Costs $275,000
-Insurance, Salaries, Benefits, Hangar, CAMP, Charts, FMS Updates, etc...

D.O.C. $1169/Hr.

If your principle is looking at under 100 hrs./yr. he/she should probably charter...

If your principle is looking to fly between 100-250 hrs. go fractional...

If looking at anything over 200 hrs. outright purchase can be a good consideration depending on individual needs.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the input. I found a budget sheet on NBAA also. It spelled out some of the costs.
