First time in Vegas...

Vacationing out to vegas for the first time tuesday night.....

Just wanted some input on best things to do from people who have been there once or twice....

Good stories are always welcome if you're willing to share

Been there many times. There is so much to do there i dont know where to begin. Walk the strip and see what kind of fun you can find. If you have a chance go to Hoover Dam and Freemont Street (the old strip). What hotel are you staying?

staying at the Sahara .....be there tues-sun. Already scheduled the Hoover dam trip and money is set aside for the game tables.

I stayed at the Luxor almost all the way at the top with a room facing McCarren....that was pretty neat.

Been there many times and it is still one of my most favorite places to frequent. Vegas is unique in more ways than one and whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Sahara is not a great hotel but not a bad hotel for the money, ended up spending a night there a few months back due to a convention at Mandalay Bay which prevented me from spending my entire stay at the Bay. I suggest trying to break away from Sahara and spending atleast one night at either Mandalay Bay or Bellagio, both are very nice hotels and lot's of stuff to do at both.

Good restaurants....

Top of the World Restaurant and Lounge at Carl Icahn's Stratosphere casino Hotel is very good and the view is pretty impressive as well. Wine list is also nice... The place moves 360 very slowly so you get a view from all sides.

Rosewood Grille on the strip has some fabulous lobster if you are into that, probably the best I have had in vegas.


Picasso’s at Bellagio is also a top notch place, great water show as well while you dine. These three are on the top of my list everytime I go there.

Emril's New Orleans Fish House at the MGM Grand is also worth a visit.

If you have the chance rent a car and head down to Laughlin Nevada, only about an hour or so drive from Vegas and it is right on the Colorado river and plenty to do. The Colorado Belle Casino is a pretty unique place and if you get a chance rent a jet ski on the river and have some fun. After a few days on the strip I will rent a car and escape the city for a few days since Laughlin is not nearly as crowded as the strip and allows for some privacy.

Golfing...

Vegas National is a pretty nice course. If you saw the movie ''Casino" then the house that is on the left side of the 16th should ring a bell..

Most all the courses I play there are nice, you can usually get a price break after 2pm if you can take the heat.

Just got back from Vegas. If you want a good buffet, go to the Aladdin Hotel & Casino...dinner is about 25 bucks or so...however voted the best buffet in Vegas and I must say it is pretty good. Crab legs, shrimp, best prime rib I've had (I'm from Texas too...that says somethin') That was only half of the buffet I visited. There was Mexican, Middle Eastern, Asian, and more that I didn't even get close too. Awesome desserts too.

Just got back to Texas from Las Vegas. 17 hour trip by car, suck. Thought I would post this if anyone knows anything about it though...All through NM and some in Arizona I saw road signs:
SPEED CHECKED BY AIRCRAFT. Never saw one plane though. Any truth to this? If so, I need a flyin' job; how do I get hired? We don't have that in Texas...at least that I know of...

Arizna DPS does it. Its pretty tough to get. I think you gotta put some time in on the ground beat first.

The Sahara....they have dollar black jack tables....those seemed to fit the Flight Instructor budget fairly well.

Just one thing...think twice when you look down the strip and say "Hey, I can see the Mandalay Bay, I'll just walk (From the Sahara)" because it's a long freakin way! Been there, done that, took a cab back!

and I gotta plug the Orleans. - I know, I know. yes its off the strip. the strip just ends up being a pain with all its traffic and congestion. - but heck - that's what some folks go to vegas for.

I used to think the orleans had the best food in vegas - but this changes all the time as quality varies at any of the casinos. Rooms were more then reasonable, and good size as well. The casino isn't as smoky as the strip casinos, and I still think it's got the best looking cocktail waitresses.

As far as tables - the pai gow poker is my best bet for stretching $40 into a three day comped drunk. Craps is also fun, and blackjack ain't so bad either.

See the freemont street experience, and take in the fountains at the bellagio... walk the stip once or twice I suppose.

then for something (or someone) else to do - Interstate 15 South to Pahrump Exit #33 - HWY. 160. After 45 minutes or so, turn left on Gamebird Rd. Turn left on Homestead Rd, drive 6 miles and they're on the left @ 10511 Homestead Rd. Look for the World Famous Chicken Ranch neon sign... the oldest and best of roadside Americana.

go there and you won't just have stories of how hot the gal was you met in the desert - heck - you'll have a receipt to prove it.

I could go to Vegas and not even bother gambling. There is so much to see and do besides gambling, though I still like a good game of blackjack. It's just too hard to find single deck games anymore.

I would put in the must see category the pirate show in front of Treasure Island; the Volcano in front of the Mirage; a walk thorugh the Caesar's Palace mall to see the talking statues; and walks through all the big theme casinos to see what they have going. If you have the bucks some of the shows are quite good. I've heard the Rio's buffet is one of the best these days.

Check out Eagle Riders Harley-Davidson. Rent one for a trip to Hoover Dam and through the Valley of Fire. Beautiful scenery and a great ride.

I was just in Vegas a couple of weeks ago for the first time myself. We stayed at the Flamingo for about $80. It's a good hotel, great for the price.

Start the night with a drink in the Center Bar at Hard Rock. The blackjack tables there are good too. Check out the Palms casino, and their bar called The Ghost Bar on the 55th floor overlooking the city.

Daytime, you can't miss the pool at Hard Rock. Lots of hardbodies there.

Bring your walking shoes! When you look on a map, stuff looks like it's close together, but on the strip, it might take 10 min. to walk from mega hotel to the next.

As I recall, the bus was a cheap, but crowded way to get between the strip and downtown.

Believe me, I won't... Atlanta loses one hockey team due to lack of interest and they send them another. It boggles the mind. Same deal for Colorado, except they take a Canadian team and move them. Sacrilage...

Second the Ghost Bar at the Palms and their night club, Rain, is awesome but get there by 1030, about 30 minutes before they open, or you'll wait an hour or more to get in. Rah at the Luxor is also hot and I've heard the Hard Rock is great too. Most of the dance type clubs don't hop until after 11.

If you are wanting to see a show, Tony and Tina's Wedding at the Rio is hilarious and a lot of fun...it's a dinner theater with audience participation.

Pools at the Hard Rock and the Mirage are awesome too.

Cesaers has a great mall type area with sky ceilings and great shops and restraunts if you want to stroll out of the heat for a while.

You'll run out of time before you run out of things to see and do...

The difference is that Atlanta STILL could care less about their hockey team. Ever try to get a ticket to an Avs game?

Back on the subject....and I mean no disrespect... it's just that this is the thought that struck me. There is someone out there in the world that HASN'T been to Las Vegas?

My point being is that it ain't easy, it ain't cheap...and they ALL sell out. So, the apathy that caused the Rockies to become the N J Devils is gone. But, the apathy in Atlanta still runs rampant.

You can't forget the strip clubs because the dam*n cab drivers keep reminding you about them. Those drivers get $10-$20 per head (no pun intended) for a carload of chumps. Atlanta is a haven for "gentlemen's clubs", so we weren't tempted.
