make sure the safety pilot is at least a private pilot. No need to be instrument rated, but this helps so they know whats going on. They must also have the category and class with a current medical.

AOPA has a web page for pilot mentors.
It also has a page for those requesting mentors. Try posting there first.
These are people who said they will volunteer their time.

If the safety pilot could potentially be the PIC, make sure that they meet your open pilot warranty clause on your insurance.

It has always been my understanding that the safety pilot can not log the time, hence, they are just along for the ride, and it can't be part 135, but I'm just a dumb private pilot, what do I know.

Don't bank on it Troy. When I was a CFI i charged for my services and thats the way most CFI's operate. You may whore out the profession yourself but most CFI's will expect to be paid.

good call Lequip

If your talking to me its $45, flight or ground... We need to come up as an industry.

Same here. I'm on salary and I'll still bill you for it out of respect for my employer and the guys who are paid hourly at my school.

I see your point. I do not advocate working for free. If a person only has a commercial and was asked to act as a safety pilot, would you still want them to bill them out?

I wouldn't sign anything nor would I give "instruction" unless it's understood that formal instruction would result in a fee of some sort.

Again, I do see your point about working for peanuts and such.

oops, dual post.

PM me if your interested...im RFD...Im in a flying club. C172 (IFR/U) $70/hr wet....C182 (IFR/U) $85/hr Wet..Let me know if you want to split time anytime. What airport do you fly out of? 06C? If you do then PM anyways with who you flew with, i might know ya.

I actually stared up a webforum for pilots at the flight school i work at. Can't go wrong i know a handful of our planes have flown a bit more because of it, and it gives customers more of a chance to interact with eachother besides the minute or two before or after flights.
