I keep hearing over and over again that if NWA liquidates there will be a replacement carrier shortly after. As far as I see it, it would be horribly bad business move to try and move your carrier into either DTW, MSP, or MEM. You have to take on a siginficant investment that could re-bankrupt your company if you fail. Also the freedom rights will go back to Japan. As I see it, those places will be economically destroyed and, the few remaining carriers will price gouge like mad.

FedEx is gearing up to do combi flights to take up the slack and the Feeders will be providing regional service with combi Beech 1900's, ATR 42's and ATR 72's. At least that's the rumor over at Pinnacle.

That will happen just as soon as Pncl gets EMB 170s to fly cargo for fedex.

....But then again, you can never really tell what management is going to do.

These are just "hubs" for Northwest, probably not huge traffic generating centers but just a place to swap passengers and airplanes for other destinations. Northwest will not disappear, but if they did, I'm sure Air Tran, American, Delta, Southwest, Spirit, United and USAirways will pick up the remains with ease. International travel will just move to Chicago, Atlanta or New York.....

As far as jobs go; Northwest pretty much outsourced that already so other than paying off the new terminals, the local economies won't really take that big of a hit.
