FFDO question: What, if any, are the education requirements?

I flew with a FFDO a while back and he mentioned something about it, saying that even if you aren't officailly required to have a 4 year degree you won't be accepted to the FFDO program without one. Just curious if it's true.

I figured the crash axe would take care of anyone coming through the cockpit door in very short order. In indoc, they taught us to us the pointy end.

Nice to see that taking over 4 airliners and killing thousands in the process is looked at as a joke to you Tarzan.

You are one of those thats too big of a coward to sack up and head out to FFDO training.

Oh wait....you're just one of those that uses the "I cant get the time off work" excuse like everyone else that is too scared to do the training.

I want to make sure that I get home to see my family and kids at the end of the day and any advantage I can get to make sure I do I will be more than happy to take.

Lets hear all your excuses and reasons why the FFDO program is no good.

It would suck to be the guy who brought a People magazine to a knife fight. Solution: administer 2 .40s and call a doctor who might care!
PBR

Oh, I'm sure it's a great program and all, but I'm not particularly interested in having to look after the stupid firearm when I'm on the road. They should really have a firearm safe at the airport . . . until then, it's just a major hassle.

Besides, didn't the feds already federalize airport security (TSA), thereby making the airport incredibly safe? Seriously though . . . .flying the plane is my job, fueling the plane is the fuelers job, and protecting the plane is the TSA's job.

So you're betting your life and God knows how many others, that TSA is doing a good job? Haven't you seen their stats?
You don't want the ability to save your life because it's "a major hassle"?

"Major hassle" to look after a weapon for protection, but you don't mind looking after your porno mags mixed in with your Jepps.

Notify the TSA! "SSI" has been leaked because SOMEONE USED THE LETTERS F-F-D-O IN CONJUNCTION ON THE INTERNET AGAIN!!!! Now the "Terrorists" have won! They've found out that ARMED PILOTS EXIST!!! We'll never be safe again! Get me a .40 caliber H&K semiautomatic so that me and my fragile ego can feel safe when we go to work! As an added bonus, I'll be able to lecture my fellow pilots over posting the letters F-F-D-O on the internet and make it seem like I have Top Secret Information they're not entitled to. Chicks dig that. Yep, send me to Artesia!

Yup, your sarcasm and "non-fragile" ego will work well against those guys with ceramic knives.
Maybe you can just reason with them...:smash:

OR LOCK THE F-ING COCKPIT DOOR AND LAND AT THE FIRST SIGN OF TROUBLE! DUH!!! WE DON'T NEED A GUN TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM TERRORISTS!!!

9-11 occured because the flight crew LET THEM IN!!! That will never happen again.

The "hardened" cockpit door may still be penetrable, but it buys me enough time to grab a crash axe. I don't need a gun!

Statistics prove time and time again that you are more likely to be shot if you posess a gun and something bad occurs than if you don't. You are also more likely to die from your own gun than theirs. Think about that, Rambo.

I'm sure your WHOLE WEEK of law enforcement training fully prepared you to protect your weapon and exert deadly force in the heat of battle in the cramped confines of a cockpit.

There are sheep, there are wolves, and there are shepherds....

That must be something they teach in FFDO school, 'cause all y'all seem to preach it.

I suppose the FFDOs are the shepherds? Seems to me with all the rules all y'all have to blindly follow without question, and the Gestapo TSA overseeing your every move, y'all are the sheep.

Nope. Cockpit defense training at FDX. Only it was sheeepdogs, not shepherds - I'm getting old.

Haven't been to Artesia, though I may go. The program won't work unless people volunteer. And you're whistling past the graveyard if you think a hardened door's gonna save you....

Oh? You NEVER open the cockpit door to receive drinks, go out to take a leak, etc? One bad guy will take out the person by the door and another will dive into the cockpit and slam the door. THEN that hardened door will keep the good guys OUT.
Get the crash axe? You won't even have time to get your belt off.
Then the guy that has trained for the last year lifting weights and practicing martial arts (like the 9-11 guys) for this, will go to work on you with his ceramic knife.
You call ME a Rambo? You want to fight off a knife attack with your bare hands.
You're right, a week a training isn't much. It's a hell of a lot more than your ostrich attitude, however.
I'm glad YOU don't have a gun. You'd give it to them if they promised not to hurt you.

You sound like some left-wing hippie. Hillary Clinton would LOVE you! First off, while prior shooting experience is not a requirement, most of the FFDO's out there are ex-military or have been shooting for a long time. As for the crash axe, not sure what kind of airplane you fly, but I have taken it out of the holster to see how useful it would be. There isn't enough room to swing it without taking the Capt's head off. In those "cramped confines of a cockpit" you speak of, a gun is MUCH more effective.

I will be leaving this Sunday for Artesia.

I'm sure you and your large ego feel nice and safe in that swivel chair, Mr. Dispatcher.

ummm, you didn't get what i was going after at all, and you just confirmed it...

I have a good story about an FFDO, but you are too busy combing that great cop mustache to care I guess.

Paranoia. It keeps the TSA employed. Get over it.
