You will not be shot down, a lone fighter a/c does not have the authority to drop a commercial aircraft out of the sky without a direct order from multiple people on the ground, unless the airliner is in immediate danger to national security i.e. prohibited areas, D.C. If we had the authority to shoot down any supicous aircraft that little C172 2 weeks ago would have been a much easier target to take out rather than an airliner with many people on board. Interceptor aircraft do not want the burden on their shoulders of taking out a commercial airliner.

Come on guy use the head on your shoulders. That butter bars, or hell the major in the fighter plane is on the horn with people who do have the authority to shoot us down if the aircraft has been hijacked with the intent of crashing into some population. Those aircraft don't carry live missles to look cool. The reason the 150 didn't get shot down was the guy actually knew enough to follow the aircraft intercept procedures.

As soon as you can line your sights up on a shoulder launched missle I'll fully support your need to extend your penis.

av8tor4239,
Could you please be a bit more discreet? It seems you make every attempt to make sure people know you're an FFDO, look at your avatar and FIDO "position". Sir, you are not a spokesman for the program, let them speak, and research for themselves. I appreciate your enthusiasm but, the SSI you speak of is just what you are borderline violating. I realize that this is not some Area 51 top secret crap but some judgement should be used. Thanks, not a flame sir...

well said.

i was going to address this to a specific person but this applies to all that have posted on this thread:

ALL OF YOU:

Why do you all have such a complex against FFDO's.... The majority of us (MYSELF INCLUDED) were strongly effected by 9/11. I personally was furloughed, and spent a year unemployed... I have lost many good years of senority, and we have ALL lost the industry that once was!

The FFDO is nothing but another peice of safety equipment. It is a person that is trained to stop a hijacker from comendering the aircraft, and driving it into a populated area.

If you are not an FFDO, and you are not flying with one, you better pray that you have some armed leo's in your cabin, because at the first sign of distress in your cockpit, you will be shot down by our military before you can squawk 7700.

Just about everything in the FFDO program is considered SSI (that is Sensitive Security Information). As an FFDO you take an oath and sign on the dotted line that you will not speak about what the goverment calles SSI... IF you have the abilitiy to go on the internet and find out what it is all about, MORE POWER TO YOU... GO GET THE INFO... Shoot, maybe you should email AlJazera the web links you find out while you are at it!

I have no doubt that the info is accessable with enough searching... The problem I have is you DOGGING a fellow aviator for VOLUNTEERING his time to protect our country! VOLUNTEERING his time an MONEY to prevent another 9/11.... YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF FOR DOGGING ANYONE FOR UPHOLDING THIER WORD IN THE OATH THAT FFDO'S TAKE TO KEEP OUR PROGRAM SECRET!

Dude, you make my point for me with this post. LOL. Just look at yourself. Thinking you are the only one that is able to protect an aircraft. The comment about if we are being hijacked and I am not with an FFDO I might as well kiss my arse goodbye. HAHAHA.....coments like that is why we all think you are a bunch of Dorks.

For you real folks in the FFDO that did it out of a sense of duty I commend you for volunteering your time and money. For this tool, Av8tor4239, you should have your gun taken from you and pistol whipped right across the forehead. Once again, thank you for making my point for me, and you should be ashamed of yourself for making the rest of the FFDO's look bad.

Whoaaaaaaa.....

Everybody take a deep breath, go to the fridge, get at least 2 beers, drink one and then return to the keyboard (or don't and find a hobby). You guys are way too wound up over this.

Quick... Somebody bash Mesa, Pinnacle, or Mesaba!

Wow, good job of coming unglued. We dog you because the government already has a program, they're called air marshalls. Those are paid positions. For free, you lessen the government's burden and increase yours. My job is to fly an airplane from a to b with the door closed, the air marshalls shoot the bad person. Works for me.

So hey, if a big swinging d!ck pilot announces to the whole crew lounge he's an FFDO, how is that keeping the program secret? But I digress, I don't know what the oath states, guess I should Google it.

Since 9/11, I've had two FAM's on my flights. I know my job as a pilot is to fly from A to B. Remember the FAA's "Common Strategy"? Well, that didn't work out too well for some of us crewmwmbers and passengers on 9/11. I guess if the new game is to gain access to the flight deck and slit my throat, I'm gonna use all available means to stop that.

Why must some people harp on others about a personal choice? Everyone has an opinion on the FFDO program. If you agree with it, you'll probably go through taining. If you don't agree with it, you'll skip training. However, some of you in the latter group, please remember that NOT ALL FFDOs wear 10 gallon cowboy hats and worship the NRA. Stop generalizing. A lot of us are normal pilots with families and live normal non-militia lives.

I also have had 2 legs with air marshalls since 9/11. Just an estimate, cause I don't want to add them up, but I have flown about 2,800 legs since 9/11. Not very good odds that I will have someone else to assist me in the back, huh? I'm not an FFDO, but I certainly respect every person who has volunteered their time, money, and effort to become one.

Kmox,
No one is dogging the FFDO program. We are just dogging the tool that thinks he is all high and mighty for being a FFDO. I could care less about someone that wants to be in the program. What I do care about is the vomit coming out of AV8tors mouth.

He really does make the rest of you look bad.

He only makes the rest of us look bad if people are unable to differentiate between one and all.

Why is it the majortity, and I know most will agree, of the FFDO are the power hungry, holier than though, I am special because I went through the program, I know a secret and you don't people. Give me a break folks.

Simon: You are an angry jealous person.. You contradict yourself (see example above). You are bashing the program that many people have worked hard to put in place, and for some reason you feel it is your responsiblity to cut down the people that do the job.

BEING AN FFDO IS NOT AN EGO THING... It is a responsiblity some have assumed to protect the aircraft, and our fragile industry.

Simon you have such a simple mind and thought process.... If you are hijacked and the hijackers have the intent of making your airplane into a missle, you can bet that they are EXTREMELY well trainned and armed with an assortment of weapons that our security can not detect. You underestemate the enemy...

In response to your idiodic statement above, an FFDO is just another piece of safety equipment.. IT IS THAT SIMPLE... Dont bring a knife (or crash axe) to a gun fight.

how did other people onboard, get a gun onboard, a flight crew can't even bring nail clippers onboard.

Yeah, and no one would ever drive 3 airplanes into office buildings either, getting arround grandma or high school drop out TSA agents is pretty rough.

I heard training involves getin' hitched with your sister and wearing a cowboy hat. Pray to the NRA or Heston at night.

If you can't get through the door, why do I need a gun?

One, what does the FFDO program or any of it's problems or benefits, have anything to do with the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution, the NRA or Charley Heston?

In specific, the FFDO program has absolutely nothing in common with the citizen's right to keep and bear arms...the "O" in FFDO, means that they are acting in official capacity as an official of the government. When they pack their guns, they are not doing it as citizens.

Two, can't get through the door? Look up the word "resistant"...like when it is being used in a sentance to describe a "bullet resistant" door.
