I came across a company on Planejobs.com that is looking for a co-pilot on a Lear 31.They are specifically looking for a female. Aren't we all ? my though is that fine if that's what you want or need but list the ad and mention male or female.Any thoughts?

Even thought that would work in my favour, :), I'm sure it's illegal. It would be like a job ad stating that they were looking for white pilots only. Or a f/a ad saying that they were only hiring those under 120lbs. COuld you imagine the uproar?

How do you say, rolling on the floor laughing my ass off passing phlem balls! :) (I hab a code!).

Don't think i would want to work there even if they wanted a white male. These people obviously don't want a pilot. They want an attractive show peice for there corparate skum bags to bet on who will nail her first.

Two sides to every coin

What's the big freakin' deal...here's an ad from www.aviationemploymentboard.com looking for a male.

Don't see me crying over it...

Male Corp. F/A with Chef Skills
Corporate flight department in the Northeast is looking for a FlightSafety or FACTS trained male who is also a chef.

Please send your resume to the following E-mail address:
[email protected]

We will contact you upon receipt of it provided you meet our requirements. Please specify the equipment types that you have flown and if you are willing to relocate.

A chef? Girrrllllllly man!
Say what you will about chefs, but I'd bet it would be much more easy to impress the ladies with some chef skills rather than the fact that I'm a pilot. Besides, they probably make a ton more money than we ever will.

A chef? Girrrllllllly man!
my brother, 6'6" 280lbs, avidly practices kung Fu, professional chef (pastry chef at that) would crush most "manly" pilots with no more effort than that which it takes to swat a fly. He could probably put the hurt on you with a cannoli.

:p

OK I guess that answers my question about what people think of a company requiring a female pilot only. That is: chefs are impressive ,they make more money ,and if needed they can kick someone's ! a$$

I know that there's something called a Bonafide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ), if I remember correctly. ResumeWriter could probably help me out here, as I'm a little rusty on my HR and hiring practices.

Anyway, BFOQ basically states that you can have this type of intentional discrimation, if you will, provided that it relates directly to the function of the job.

For example, private Christian universities CAN require that their professors be of a Christian faith. Companies that advertise for swimsuit models CAN specify that the models be both female and within a certain height/weight ratio.

What I'm wondering is, what could the BFOQ possibly be for hiring a female pilot?

You would think they make more money, but over on the www.chefinfo.com boards they are really complaining.

A lot of the new guys don't want to wear the traditional hat, and the older more experienced chefs think it is a symbol of professionalism and pride.

There is also a huge influx of short-order cooking jobs that are dragging the pay towards the gutter. A lot of dishwashers are just dying to get to that "shiny new hotplate" and become a "real" chef, even if it means low pay and a crappy schedule working Thanksgivings and other holidays. Some people are even "paying" to flip hamburgers hoping it will jump-start their career.

This sounds SOOOOO much like the aviation industry, I'm wondering if you made it up. We've had the hat issue at my company, younger guys don't want it, older guys do. People pay for training and do whatever to get a job, including making so little money that they have to have 4 roommates. People think every pilot makes a lot of money, but in fact a lot don't. Very uncanny. Almost comical.

Um... Yeah. He was being sarcastic. Notice there is no www.chefinfo.com? Um, yeah, he was TRYING to be funny, and I thought it was. Check your equipment list and see if your sense of humor is a required item. I'M KIDDING... You don't have a equipment list... I don't think. Maybe you should check.

Welcome to Flightinfo, Idle.

Maybe I shouldn't have put the "almost" in front of comical. It sounds like it threw you off a little. Sense of humor is on the equipment list and operational. But evidently the effect I was looking for is on the DMI list. Cheers.

BFOQ?

That's funny. I suppose if a woman can do it, it's just not a man's job!

Don't need a crashpad, homebased. Gotta love FMS SPEED! And 62K thrust.

Don't feel bad, I suppose GE's are good too. After all, EPR gauges are overrated, right?

Not at all! I personally prefer EPRs - I practically grew up on TF-33s. We have Pratts and GEs here, but mostly GEs.
