I went to the Chief Pilot's office today and asked him some questions. Here is what he said about hiring:

The finance geeks have said "no more pilots this year". The CP thought they were crazy since we are already short on dudes and we have more retiring, but all they look at is the bottom line. He said that the hiring picture is always subject to change at any given moment, so basically standby to standby.

Just thought I'd pass this little tidbit along.

Goose,

Does "this year" mean fiscal year, ie. end of May, or calendar year? Thanks.

Would that be the same chief pilot who is responsible for the firing of one of our Captains when he exercised his PIC authority?

I'm almost ashamed to admit I even know where that office IS.

:(

P3tarbaby - - I'm fairly certain "this year" refers to fiscal year - - numbers for next fiscal year are runnning in the 200-250 range.

I didn't know where the office was until I found it yesterday. I was walking in a resume for a friend.

I'm 99% sure he meant the calender year. He said "for the rest of the year".

Keep in mind though, he wants more bodies ASAP.

He did say that one variable was: we have ~50 guys out on military. When they return, it is like 50 new hires. No one knows when they will return.

Whew. That's a great reason to find it! :)

Good luck to your friend!

Goose17,

I sure hope you're wrong wrong wrong, otherwise it will be a loooooong summer sitting in the pool. I will drown, if they wait that long.

FWIW

Just got back from my RGS/PT and my instructor said expect a new bid to be coming out at the end of May or first of June. The training cycle is about to end soon in the MadDog and the instructors have been told not to expect any days off still for a while, whatever that means.

Good luck poolies.

A new hire class starts Monday. I guess this is the last class of the "year" (whatever that means). With all of the drafting, vacation buybacks and retirements, plus rumors of 200 per year from the VP, he must mean this FY. The new class will get a briefing next week from Cheever and the gang, hopefully with fresh intel.

BTW, if you are senior to me, MEM s@cks. For those junior, if you live in a crummy place, move here for lifestyle. If you love where you live stay there, we have enough whiners here already!
