How about you guys stop all the jumpseat freeloading on all the other airlines until you can reciprocate. I don't even know why you are allowed to jumpseat since you deny everyone else. You make my commute home to Memphis very tough and have already cost me a hotel room. Yet everytime one of you jumpseats on us I hear the same old song and dance crap about oh we're working on it. If you were truly working on it then your union would have spent the money and time to set up a system that works.

I think you need help with your misplaced anger. Don't blame the pilot's for the company's policy. I'm sure if it were up to the pilots, they would have no problem with it.

I agree with pleasehireme.

I even had a Captain get out of his seat and come up to the gate to apologize for the policy.

He then proceeded to give me the name and number of the individual at the company who handled jumpseating.

While it didn't help me get home, this Captain went way above and beyond the call of duty and it was greatly appreciated.

The way it is....

UPS is prohibited from accepting off-line jumpseaters by the FAA...it's not a union or company thing. Our union is working on a new system to fix this problem....it boils down to the FAA being slow to approve new things.

The airline jumpseat coordinators understand that we are trying and a letter was put out to the union memberships that was understanding of our situation.

That being said.....I've been trying to use SWA passes to get around rather than jumpseating. I feel a bit guilty about jumpseating when we can't reciprocate. When I have jumpseated, a few guys have given me the interrogation routine, which is a little uncomfortable, but most are very welcoming and understanding. I really don't see what purpose it would serve to deny a Fedex or UPS guy an open seat in the back....

Don't blow smoke up anyone's ass with it's the FAA doing it. If they really wanted to get it back then their union would spend the money to have an employment verification system set up for offline pilots. I guarantee you if we stopped taking Fedex guys that they would get jumpseating back in less than a week. I guaran-fuukin-tee it!

Come to COEX your welcome on my jumpseat anytime!

Really can anyone with a good conscience deny a guy a ride home?

UPS and Fedex,

Please don't let a few speak for the many. Most realize were the problem is and what is being done. A pilot commuting is a pilot commuting, regardless of ID, uniform, or even the color of your kitbag. All welcome at AA. Hope fully soon we can fly the night skies again.

Canter...

Here is one of those times where the mouth is opened before the brain is geared. The problem with UPS/FED EX is the same problem all airlines have. After Sept. 11th, the TSA in conjuction with the FAA prohibited access to the cockpits by all NON Airline employees.

Which means that only pilots from the same airline or parent company DL/ASA etc can ride IN the cockpit. Passenger airlines have opened their jumpseats but only in the back, when there are seats available.
FED X/UPS from what we have been told does not have seats outside the cockpit in all their airplanes so instead of having to deal with which airplane does and all thee complications it brings they decided to keep them closed. All of our DC8 with the exception of 2 60 series have courier seats(2) outside the cockpits. We do honor jumpseat requests in writing. So, if you are going to Memphis you can call our OPs and fax all pertinent info and get on the jumpseat. We even honor 135 freight dawgs! We have 12 birds with jumpseats in the back. Times like these we need to help each other.

For all the Fed Ex pilots hitching rides in MEM, don't pay no attention to what canter592 has to say. Mesaba pilots, with the exception of this clown, know that you would reciprocate jumpseats given different circumstances. Some of our jet pilots have some serious ego and intelectual problems. Thanks for carrying me from MEM-DTW-MEM off and on. It was very much aprreciated.

Your welcome anytime on board Pinnacle

You guys are welcome onboard Pinnacle anytime we have an open seat, don't worry. Every FedEx and UPS guy I've ever taken has been nothing but very thankfully and offers to apologize for the new FAA policy.

Good luck and welcome onboard.
