On another subject that is not the best news for those wannabe FedEx guys....
I took a resume into JL's office last Friday...
I don't want to take this thread off topic, but I have a couple of questions.
1> Is JL the chief pilot? (I quit airinc last year...need to do research)
2> If so, would it be in/appropriate to try to walk my own resume in to him/her? (I have a MEM overnight this wk)
3> Is it even possible (do I need a badge to get past the receptionist)
4> If it is possible, is JL at the office during the day or night?

Yeah, it may be a rediculous idea, but I really would like to be a FedEx pilot & I am trying to think of any & all of my options. At the time, I only have one FedEx referral.

Thanks,

mission impossible

JL is the chief pilot and yes, he is usually around during the day. There is no chance in heck you can get to him. He is behind multiple levels of security of which only a FedEx employee badge will get you through.

Good thinking though. Just get a buddy pilot to walk your resume in.

I feel your pain

Competition for an interview at FedEx is intense. Where other carriers might reward a candidate for a bold move or zany antics, FedEx does not. In my opinion (and only mine) FedEx is looking for a conservative, professional, safety conscious pilot that plays well with others. With that in mind, there are many, many candidates that meet those standards. So, how do YOU get an interview? Through luck and persistance. Get all the letters of rec you can. If you have a good friend on the inside, have him/her talk with the chief pilot and highlight your name. Update your app frequently and then try to patiently wait. Don't forget you can always get a non-pilot job with FedEx and apply through internal avenues, this has worked for some, but can be tough work and is not for all.

Keep current, get the jet PIC time, instruct, evaluate, get a safety job, attend advanced aviation schooling and put it all on your app.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Goose!

I only have one letter. Unfortunately, there have not been too many folks from my company that were able to migrate to the purple side of the fence...and I don't know the few that (may) have.

The one letter that I do have is a friend of a friend. I have not actually met the guy, but I am quite thankful that he decided to take a risk and help me out anyways. I don't think it would be a good idea to ask him to go to the CP's office for a guy that he has never met.

I update monthly!

I definately thought about throwing boxes on my days off, but unfortunately, I am a slave at my company and only have 8 to 10 days off a month.

Logging pt 121 jet PIC as we speak...

attend advanced aviation schooling
Well...I have a FEw...100% and bachelor's degree.

On top of all that, I try to attend a job fair annually.

Once again, thanks for the advice.
You are right, it is a tough market, and there are hundreds or thousands out there just like me that want to be purple!
