There can't be any hope of engine commonality. At least not when shopping for 90 airframes. Among potential cast-aside airframes are the early RR powered birds (with the shorter nacelle, not the -535E4) ex-TWA Pratt & Whitneys, Newer RR aircraft, you name it. It appears UPS had the same troubles, the ended up with a mixed PW/RR fleet.
Well Fedex is retiring an avg of 200-250 guys per year according to guys in my squadron. Also add to the fact that the age 60 goes before congress in the fall. If both of these happen I could see trickle hiring. Just my take but you guys run the numbers. The good news is if hired your second year pay is really good. What do you guys think.
Not a big deal with blended engines, the md11 fleet also contains a mix of pratt and ge.
757s! Awesome.
You guys are asking where from and commonality, etc. I stand by my post on another thread that they will come from Delta and Northwest AFTER they merge and dump the 757s. Psssstttt.....they're all Pratt powered!!!
Sine the press release said the the 757s would REPLACE the 727s, how will this affect staffing? Going from approx. 110 three crew 727s to 90 two crew 757s has to have an impact on future staffing needs.
FWIW, if the new TA passes, I've heard it will require 400 more pilots to cover just the scheduling/rig changes. Perhaps that will offset the 2 vs 3 man crews. Although, like someone else said, it's going to be quite a few years before we see more 757s than 727s on the property.
Another upside...this should shake up the 727 seniority list...maybe motivate a few fellas to upgrade that have been staying in the seat.
Not this fella. I'm staying until they tell me I have to leave. Someone else can have my training cycle...and my 757 raise to boot.Oh yeah that's right, same pay....nevermind.
I predict:
757 F/O...junior to 727...more work at same pay.
I think the fedex nc screwed the pooch on this one. A wb 310 carries how much more than a nb 757????? I can see the 737 in the nb category, but not the 757.

I think the only guys who will go to the right seat of the 75 will be S/Os on the 72. The left seat, though, will open up a lot of Captain slots for everybody while the transition occurs, so its tough to say if it will go senior.
Me, I'd rather fly the newer of the dinosaurs and maybe even have some modern avionics so you don't have to ask for a vector to LIT as you level off with Denver Center. How embarrassing is that?
FJ
"Embarrassing?" As long as the flying is contract compliant, is not struck work, and my paycheck magically arrives every two weeks, I will happily fly any aircraft on FedEx property without any sign of embarrassment. "Direct LIT", "uhh, could we get a vector?", "RNAV approach?" "Unable"..See it's easy...)
