Can anyone give me some advice on what to study for the fedex interview? I don't have an interview yet but I want to be fully prepared for the call. Thanks

Getting Ready

Sonnychiba, If you haven't checked out Cheryl Cage's "Checklist for Success, the Airline Pilots Guide to a Successful Interview", I'd start there. Once you get the call, or have some indication that you're getting close, I'd make calling AlbieF15 my first priority. PM him when you get a chance and he'll give you the rundown, but it's a great value, not to mention the money-back gaurantee.

Good Luck,

Sonnychiba,

I interviewed in May of 2002. Got hired and started class in Aug 02.

The first goal is to focus on the sim ride. They don't tell you what sim you will be in until the day of the ride so in my opinion buying sim time would not be good use of resources. The main focus of the sim ride was basic attitude insrument flying and holding pattern entries. No takeoffs or landings and no emergencies. I see you are flying a beech 1900. Kick offf the autopilot and hand fly for a month before the ride. This should do the trick to prepare for the sim.

Next is the panel interview. I know it has been said before but be yourself. They want to hire you if you get that far. Be ready for questions about when you may have bent the rules to meet the challenge of the flight. This one threw me a curve because they want an honest answer. The panel is made up of line pilots so they know that not all situations are covered by the ops manual. Other than that standard questions about your background and experience. FedEx still has a family feel so focus a little about yourself outside of the aviation business.

CRM. Be ready for an exercise with a working crew. Make command decisions with input from all resources. Be ready to explain your decisions after the exercise. In short they are looking to hire Captains of the future.

Computer testing. Standard SAT stuff you did for college. No real way to prepare. Just do your best.

FedEx is a great place to be. Good mix of Civilian and Miliary flyers. I had all civilian background from the "regional airlines". Nightime schedules are not that bad. A lot easier to work through a hot summer if you work nights. I commute as well as many other FedEx'ers and it works well for me.

Good Luck !
Hope that helps.
