Any other FedEx types have a clue as to when the flipping training letter will be released? I finally got a window seat and I am very curious as to when to expect training.

I am thinking this fall, but who the heck knows.

Goose,
Did you get the 727 or MD-11? Congrats!

Boeing

Well, after darn near 2-1/2 years, I finally got senior enough to hold the right seat of the 727. Guys getting the MD-11 in Memphis were hired a year eariler.

I will miss serving coffee, carrying the lunches, getting the water, warming/cooling the airplane, and walk-arounds in the rain/snow/sleet.

Time for pitot heat, stinky feet, what's to eat!

Congrats!!!

Congratulations Vulva! Good to hear that you finally made it to a seat w/a view.

I'm still activated through mid August. That will be 1.5 yrs. Still waitin' to see if my favorite Uncle (Sam) extends that to a full 2 yrs.

You stayin' on the 727 or going to something else?

Congrats again, buddy...

Yeah, I'll miss you doing that stuff also. . . . :-)

Congrats on the window seat!!

The training letter was released today.

seniority

Feels good to have some movement finally.

After the last guy on the training letter trains, I will be:

252 from the MD-11
302 from the Airbus
341 from the DC-10

You can hold any of those seats if you were hired the year prior. FedEx did a big hiring push (450 or so I believe) the year before I was hired to staff the postal bid we got. That big rush of bodies has seriously slowed the progression down of guys hired after the big hiring push.

As of now, you can kind of see from the numbers above... The DC-10 is the most "senior" seat for F/Os (you have a S/O to do the work), followed by the bus and the 11 last. This might change on the next contract since I think the union is pushing to separate out the widebody fleet as far as pay making the 11 the highest paid.

After the 727 right seat, I will be gunning for the bus right seat. I am enjoying flying domestically and during the day right now and I think the bus has a good combination of the 2. That move could take another 2-1/2 years, but I hear lots of rumors of lots of new planes and pilots to boot, so who the heck really knows.

Congrats to all the parties that moved up. It is nice to be part of a company that actually has upward movement.

How many DC-10's still left? I'm thinking the MD-10 #'s are even to the DC-10's, maybe higher?

Do you guys have a stuggle of getting back into the window seat after the long ride in the back? Hard to imagine how do you guys in the back keep your "flying" skills up to speed!? Are there any washouts during upgrade to the right seat, ever/often?

Goose,

Have you looked into swapping training dates with anyone to try to get an earlier 727 class dates. I'll bet there will be some senior guys willing to push it off until the fall.

ILS,
It might be tough getting back into a flying seat if you've been in the back seat for a very long time but otherwise it's like riding a bike. There was a guy in my class last summer that was coming from five years in the back of the DC10 and he didn't have a problem. The 727 might be little different since you actually have to fly it but the for the MD11 you just have to know how to type fast. :)

So thats the secret! "Type Fast"! :)

years to capt?

Hey all! Just curious, in your educated opinions, how long avg 'till capt (I know, lots of variables depending on domicile/type a/c) for someone hired this summer with 15+ yrs until reaching 60 yrs of age? Thanks!

8 to 10 years, given current fleet plan and retirements as expected.

All bets off if the fleet grows more than planned, though.
