Sixteen pilots started new hire training at FedEx last Monday, Nov 29th. The last seniority number assigned was 4300. Another class starts on Jan 3rd, although I don't know how many are in that class. I would expect a class on the 10th as well if they go back to the staggered starts that they were using before peak started.

Rumors continue that there will be a major seat bid in Jan and continued hiring throughout 2005. 100 widebody Captains was the number I've heard a couple of times for the seat bid, we'll see. I've been getting called for draft about 2 times a night on my few off days and they are constantly drafting for right seaters in the 72 as well. We definitely need some more bodies, so I am confident that the big numbers of new hires will be needed to keep the freight moving.

I also heard that there were a ton of unexpected retirements this month, but I haven't seen that many notices in the FCIFs yet, so it remains to be seen if that is a valid rumor. Not that I have anything against old guys or gals, but I would love to see them continue to retire in droves!

The rumor from the other thread about lots of interviews for Jan is also good news. I hope they all come true. Best of luck to those in the process, hurry up and get here!
