Just passing along something I had learned a couple days ago...

I was sitting at a ramp during a standby period and was watching the FedEx propaganda channel on the TV. They stated that we are getting 26 additional wide body aircraft in FY 08!

I thought that was substantial and worthy of passing along. Add to that the 757 starting soon and the 777 starting in 09' and it sure is better news than the damn retirement age argument!

Amen!

Goose,

Did you get the impression that was above and beyond what has been already announced? Airbus buys etc.......

Ditto on the age 65 discussion.

dunno

I really wasn't aware of what was announced already. I know I have been flying a lot of new Airbi lately... I was just thinking that 26 more "widebodies" for FY 08 was significant.

i wonder how this will affect the hiring that seems to be non existant. with all these new aircraft you would thinkt hat hiring would continue.

Not as long as every swinging 60 year old takes a leave of absence or goes to the back seat in hopes of returning to the front seat in a couple of years.

We are WAY fat in the Boeing back seat, and getting fatter every day as the dinosaurs rumble up to the trough.

Trouble is these old farts don't have a life, they want to fly to 65 so they can die a month later. Maybe I shouldn't have called them farts...I think selfish bastards is more appropriate.

Announced #'s

Jan 3rd msg from VP of Flight Ops had:

Planned fleet numbers by the end of 2007 total 364 trunk aircraft with a net increase of 20 wide body aircraft. End state 2007 plan shows:
94 B727-200’s
66 A310’s (+3)
63 A300/600’s (+12)
19 DC10’s (-11)
64 MD10’s (+13)
58 MD11’s (+3)

Maybe we are getting jets quicker than originally thought...hope so.

One would think these aircraft would need to be flown by additional pilots, No?

I volunteer.

Plenty of excess pilots in the back of the 727.

June bidpack shows 37 Secondary lines + 154 Reserve lines (....191 total) backing up 163 hard lines.

That's only 46% hard lines in June....compared to 70% back in Dec.

...just need to see that next acft bid (June?) to get folks moving!
