Has anyone been able to get a new meet-n-greet scheduled. My sponsor said he would start speed dialing first thing this morning.

I was there in line this morning at 8. I started calling on my way in at 7. When I got in line one of the ACPs was telling us that we could sign up on a list for a slot so we wouldn't have to stand around waiting to set up an appointment. There were about 35 people in line at 8:30. After the ACP told us we would get a slot, a lot of people left after they signed the list. Then the receptionist showed up and they started to call names from the list to fill the slots. Of course some people had left, but the ACP and the receptionist assured us that they would get a slot (but of course May was already full).

Then the ACP said that anybody who had called and left a message earlier (it was about 8:45) would be given a slot as well, but everybody after that was to be informed that the slots were full.

Now what actually happens from all of that I don't know, but I did watch some things going on that didn't give me any warm and fuzzies about the fairness of the process. They weren't prepared for a rock concert ticket like line being there when they came into work and the mechanics of the process are cast in jello.

I know they are doing the best they can to tame the beast but I don't see the benefits of this process. The ACP did solicit ideas on improving the process so if you would like to send an email to one of the ACPs with some ideas they were asking.

Good luck.

Sounds like they've created a monster for themselves....................

Standing by for news... in UAFM

FalconJet - Thanks for the update. I'm checking my .mil email hourly to see if my sponsor has had any luck. I'm encouraged by your report.

All is well in UAFM, as long as the stay is short.

Falconjet,
You are truly a good dude to go to that trouble for a bud. I sure hope that sponsors are drinkin' free for the rest of their lives, since they are going through a lot of ass pain in order to get someone an interview.

I have been calling since 800am MEM time. I left a message, but haven't been able to get through. I feel like I am calling in for a prize at a radio station. This process is insanity gone crazy.

Started dialing at 7. Straight to voicemail each time. It finally rang, but went to voicemail again. I left a message and kept trying to get through. Around 1045, I got through to the secretary and she said the slots were full and there was a standby list. When I told her I left a message, she checked her notes and actually did have a slot for me and my sponsoree on Jun 2.

Extremely painful process.

FYI - My sponsor just emailed me. He called all morning - busy signal. Finally got a recording that said call back 19 Jun. Basically the same thing that happened 1 Mar,although that day he left a message - to no avail. Oh well.

Same thing for me. My sponsor which is in MEM (MD-11 class) called all morning with no luck what so ever. Finally when the answering machine picked up, it said to call back June 19. This is round two for me, the last one was Mar 1.
What else can we do to get a meet and greet?
Maybe if we have ACPs addresses, we can all camp in front of their houses, and get to "meet them and greet them" to include washing their cars/mowing their lawns/painting their houses/walking the dog/ and obviously beer and alcohol of their choice.
Any gouge on how to make this process better?
I've been waiting since November to schedule a "Meet & Greet", looking for help.

Cheers

Same here - been waiting since the window closed. I dunno what the secret is. I think they are busy as hell with all the applicants!!!

I hate to say this, but the best thing to do if the process remains the same is to have your sponsor show up the morning they open back up to get on the list. At the very least call and leave a message and keep calling to see if you were able to snag a spot.

I don't know how long this system will remain in place if we need to speed things up in the hiring process now that the MOAB is out. I just don't see this providing enough input to keep the interviewers busy. I can also see a hoard of angry pilots who were not able to get a slot making a pretty big noise if this continues.

I don't like the system, but it is what we have to work with right now.

As far as waiting since November, that really isn't that long in the scheme of things. It took me well over a year to get a call for an interview at the tail end of the postal push, the process is clogged and the only hope is that things will pick up now that the bid is out.

Another tidbit I got today was that you need to UPDATE your apps. Even if you are already on the list for a m&g, update your file and resume before you come in. I've harped on the update deal before, and it is huge. Update your file at least once a month until you are sitting in class!

Update your ON-LINE APPLICATION

That's a good point FlaconJet (Update your application)
For you out there that haven't updated you application in a few weeks, go to the website and do so. There a minor changes, now you there is a section called Pilot Questionnaire, and you are required to input your First Class Medical date, ATP#, FE or FE Written and Score with expiration date, any felonies, traffic violations (last 2 years), DWI/DUI, etc. They have 32 new questions... Check it out:

But I was out flying freight.....

my sponsor tried all day as well, but left the message around 8am, so im hoping to get a slot for this m&g gig. i assume these slots will be for may / june???

Walkthasky,

I talked to the guy about the thing we talked about. He said the other guy should be a go and the thing should be wrapped up soon. I'd steer clear of the docks for a coupla nights if I was you.

Yeah he said that its all going down. Also, that other thing, well, id be watching the rear view mirror. Word on the street is some people should be watching their back. Hey, have you ever been in the east river? Temperature this time of the year is a lil chilly. Might want to try it out, and get used to it.

P.S. Oh really? wow sounds like fun. I think ill give up this crappy fedex endeavour(j/K), and fly with 4 days off a month. Thanks!

That is why I hated to say that!

I also think that that is why the ACPs were a little embarassed to show up and see 30-40 people (who all had much better things to do) mulling around waiting to schedule a meeting. A fairly large waste of a lot of people's time.

Another good comment was that they should do it on a day other than Monday so those that had to commute in to stand in line (I had it way easier than them, all I had to do was drive in) would have more options to jump in or combine with an actual trip.

They need to do it lottery style... like you put your name in, and they draw them out of a hat.

Or have everyone send in the sponsor form, and then they choose who gets a meet and greet.

Of course, when Jack retires this summer after building up his squadron, this whole thing may change.

Exactly. Seems like now-a-days, if you haven't been in the military, putting paperwork in at FedEx is about like filling out an Application for memberhip to Augusta National.

I am all for it being a rigorous process to get hired, but sheesh!

Ahem - USAF Reserves here, former AD - lots of Rec Letters (some up high) and I can't get a M&G.....so that argument won't work.

The whole process has morphed into something well beyond what it was intended to do, allow a Fedex pilot to personally reccomend someone.

WE should just go back to the days of yore, all of a year ago, when a guy could just go to an ACP when he had some time with a resume in hand and was allowed to have One Number 1 Guy in the system at a time.

Hell everything else is on line, why don't we just add this process as well. When you recommend a guy online, have a question that asks, Is this your top candidate? If you check yes, that's your sposonoree. And you can only have one at a time.

Much easier.

I didnt mean nothin....

This process, btw, is giving us a bad name. I got people I respect that I got to jerk around just to help them. It used to be a pretty classy deal.

Well said. I had no idea that camping out was even an option. I was trying to play by the rules and call in because I figured they didn't want a bunch of guys bum rushing their offices. There will probably be 1000 there next time!

I was as frustrated as the next guy with the M&G thing from last year. Seems to have gotten worse. If I were in a position to suggest a better system (which I am not), I would propose an electronic sign-up list for the projected available slots for the whole year. First to sign up gets the earliest available slot. You will know where you stand from the outset. If you want to throw seniority of the sponsor in the mix, then you certainly could do that by giving captains priority or something along those lines.

Maybe one of you guys on the property could suggest such a thing to an ACP since they seem receptive to input........
