What's the longest anyone has heard of someone waiting after the meet and greet with an ACP at the MEM AOC for an interview?

I met with an ACP in Aug 05, no previous 121 time, I have 4 or 5 on-line recs, highest rec from a Bus F/O about to hold Capt. and not a word from MEM.

I also know a guy in the same boat with roughly the same stats and had a M&G in Apr 05. Only diff was he was a United furlough (he just got called back BTW).

I suppose I need to buy more beer for my sponsor and recs...

Guy I flew with did his M & G back in March and just got the call for an interview for next week......

I know a guy that's been waiting since Apr '05.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining (OK I'm complaining), I realize I might be junior on the waiting list. I'm just wondering how to break the code and turn all shades of purple...

I heard that they only take a limited number of ARTs each year. Something about them not being real mil pilots and not traditional reservists either bold enough to venture into the civilian world.Your time will come MM. Why do you keep changing your screen name?

One's for FedEx and the other's for UPS. Plus I swore too much with the other screen name. I'll talk to you (TR) about UPS later...

Did the m/g in early Aug, got the call in Dec for a Jan interview...still waiting on the results. Background was/ is Part 121 CRJ CA and ANG fighter guy...hope this helps.

I saw someone posted that you now need 5 online recs versus 3. I have not heard that from my ACP or seen it written anywhere. I haven't been to MEM in about month...anyone have any idea if this is true or where it came from. Lots of buds are asking me about and I have no idea what to tell 'em. As far as I know, nothing has changed from the 3 recs, 2 of which have flown with you. Anyone?

Good for you! Congrats on the interview. So what's the code? Only fighter guys with 121 experience get in? How senior was your sponsor? Was your sponsor in politicing for you every week? How many recs did you have? How senior were they? I've heard that the seniority of your sponsor and recs are everything now. Give us the purple juice...

I have a friend who did M & G in March and still hasn't gotten called. I talked with KD a couple of weeks ago and she said time of M & G doesn't really have that much bearing on when you are called, just gets you in the door. They are interviewing most/best qualified first. So if your PIC or TT is relatively low, you may have to wait longer...also, I think the seniority of your sponsor is a factor.

Straight from my ACP last year.

"your guy has three recs, that's good. Can he get a couple more because we prefer 5".

Who knows. By the way, the guy i sponsored waited almost a year but went through the interview 3 weeks ago.

June 05 Meet & Greet

Did mine in June 05, have 7 internal recs (have flown with most), retired military (Oct 05) and still focused on my objective and waiting for the call.

I haven't broken the code on how they make the selection, but I'm certain there are many factors that are considered when the interview selection board meets.

From day 1 at the meet & greet, the ACP conducting it said "everything looks good, just be patient". My sponsor has done several follow ups with his ACP to make sure things were still on track and that seems to be the case.

It can be discouraging when I see guys getting the call 3 months after the meet and greet, and at the same time reassuring after hearing that someone got the call after waiting nearly a year or more.

All I can say is keep the faith (I certainly am) and good things will come to those that wait (and continue to network!) From everything I've learned on this Forum, it sounds like FedEx is a great place to work and I'll wait for my shot at the job!

Cheers,
BH

You're darn right it's discouraging. I was told in my M&G that it would take 3 to 4 months and that I should expect an interview. All I hear from posts, buddies on the property, as well as guys waiting for an interview, is that it is taking a year or so, unless you know Fred Smith personally. I think that the only way in, without Fred's endorsement, is to bug the living crap out of the ACP. If they only get 7 per month per ACP, then having a persistent sponsor might be the answer. My sponsor doesn't really want to get that dirty as junior as he is and I appreciate his help no matter what. The senior guys I have recs from are sponsoring other guys and are stuck in the pile 'o apps as well, otherwise I would have numerous sponsors.

Any words that hiring is going to slow waiting for UPS to sign a contract. Or is FedEx going to sign a contract despite UPS and continue hiring at the current rate?

No idea what the code is. My sponsor has been there 5 years, now a 727 CA. He followed up a few times but not overly aggressive. I had five recs total and he is the most senior and civilian only. Of the 5, 2 were from mil guys. Two of the five have been there less than a year. I did the M+G with Jack, don't know if that made a difference.

How long ago was your M & G with JL? (If you don't mind me asking)

I was told by the ACP I did the M&G with that if you met with Jack Lewis (and he liked you) then you were in. I've also heard of sponsors going to Lewis and giving a push for their guy and that worked too. Maybe that's it, every FedEx sponsor needs to beat down Jack's door. yeah right...

What you failed to mention earlier was that you met with JL. That made ALL the difference. Congrats...

how is it with the rate of hiring that people are having to wait so long and needing so many recs. you think that they would not have the time to even do m&g. all of this is very interesting to me. i know a guy who put in an app and got a call three months later for an interview. had no recs and average time.

Where was his interview, mesa?

I have two friends (hopefully) that are willing to sponsor me. I would obviously like to get a job at FedEx ASAP. I am not sure which one to go through:
1st sponsor: 727 FO. He is sponsoring my 2nd sponsor who had a M&G back in July. I feel good that he is going to get hired. Assuming #2 gets hired, my 1st sponder has one more friend that he wants to get hired ahead of me.

2nd sponsor: I have known him longer and he will walk me through as soon as he is finished with training, assuming he gets hired.

My questions is who should I go with? #1 is a FO and his ACP will probably have fewer M&G's. But I have to wait at least 6 months longer. #2 will be a SO, ACP will have more M&G's, but I can get a M&G much sooner .

Thanks!

I am not positive, but at one time they were wanting us to be on property for a year before sponsoring anyone. Your sponsor #2 may want to confirm that.

I'm not on the property, but I'm confident when I say: According to my sponsor and my on-line rec pilots. You can only sponsor one person at a time and the one year thing is a myth. My sponsor doesn't hit second year pay until spring 06 and my M&G was back in Aug 05. I have rec letters from more senior guys but they were already sponsoring other applicants when I asked for their help. I'm still thankful that my sponsor was willing to help me. I'm sure he knows better guys but I guess I bought the most beer. One thing I'm not sure about though is: Can one applicant have numerous sponsors?
