Well, I will be flying my last couple loads of pax this week...and then nothing but boxes and I couldn't be more thrilled. First of all, let me say thank you to everyone on this site that has povided information over the past couple of years that I have been job hunting at the majors. I have just landed my dream job and will be in the March 28th class at FedEx. Does anyone out there have an idea of the breakdown of available slots? I know the class is supposed to be huge..around 40 guys or so. Also, if they have to dry lease any sims to accomodate all of us, what are the preferred locations?

Thanks!

Hey wait a second, looks like you have a civilian background. Anybody that reads this board knows that FDX will not even interview a non-military type. (And prefers Marine test pilots with PHD's and 20 confirmed kills.)

BTW-Welcome aboard!

Boost-
Congrats and welcome!
I have heard that most if not all the newbies are going sideways on the Boeing.
You'll be happy in any seat though! Start hitting the books bro!

last i heard (which was on feb 9th), FedEx was sending offsite training to Miami, Dallas, and Minneapolis. Not sure about the breakdown of how many are going to the right seat of the 727 or the back of the -10. I have done training in Dallas (3 years ago) and that is a good deal. Nice hotel, relaxed atmosphere, rental car, etc. It was nice to get out of memphis. I'm sure Miami is nice too. Minneapolis is being used for the first time and the training dept. said they might be contracting all instruction out at that location. I think it best to learn from FedEx guys instead of Pan Am hired folks. JMO. Congrats and best of luck.

Welcome aboard Boost,

Dallas is a good deal if you can swing it. If we still stay at the same hotel (Marriot) there was free food and beer at happy hour by the pool. I don't know anything about MIA, or Pitt if that comes up.

Same deal with the MIA hotel if we stay at the same hotel as the DC-10 guys do when we train down there.

Thanks guys,
If one thing has been true this whole time it has been how great everyone involved with the hiring process has been. Can't wait to start and be a part of this great pilot group...
Anyway, lets see if I can hit all the replies

DallasGtr: Yep, straight civilian, and (gasp) a furloughed civilian guy got hired in my class as well.;) Thanks for the welcome!

Cptain 4242: to say a load is off my shoulders is a huge understatement, I feel like I have finally made it. Come on over they're hiring a lot!

FedEx flyer: Sitting any which way is great with me though I am still crossing my fingers for the right seat 727.

seefive: please please please somewhere warm, I have spent 11 winters now (whos counting) in the midwest/northeast and thats about all I can take. Miami or Dallas would be awesome!

purpledog: On second thought Dallas sounds like the best since they have my favorite kind of beer...FREE!

USMCFDX : alright now MIA has free beer too..wow, you guys pick way better hotels than my old gig!

...praying for steam gauges, three engines and free brewskies!

And for every civilian hired I'll bet there are 7 or 8 military. Hardly a representation of the total pilot pool out there.

OK guys, not going to touch the military vs. civilian thing. Once you are there you have to comform to the same standards anyway, so who really cares how you get there.

Anwyay for those curious, there were 10 guys in my interview class. 6 military and 4 civilian. 9 out of 10 were IP's, EP's or management/command types so they are definitely looking for that. Ages from 27 to 45. Military was a mix of AC and civilians were commuter rj guys. All really great guys and we hit it off from the beginning.

Timeline was: app on file for a long time, ACP meeting in early January, called beginning of Feb. for an interview in the middle of Feb., Call for the job first week in March for a March 28th class date. ...So it happened fast

Remember, its not who you know, its who knows you!

Saw Pete D. picking up books for the next class- he says 72 this month, 48 or so for both Apr - May, then 30/month for a long time....

Just finished interview this afternoon. Whew!!! Man, was that tiring!! Anyway, there were 5 military guys and myself. They told us we might have to wait up to 6 weeks to hear from them, then up to another 6 weeks for a date (if the word is good). They are really behind, but that's a good thing if you know what I mean. The sweating begins now......

Dude, hang in there. Ain't nothin to do but sit back, have a few brews and wait for the phone to ring. Keep the good Kharma flowin dude.

is it true that if you don't receive a letter from them within a week to 10 days that a phone call with a job offer will eventually come?
