JL just jumpseated on my flight. We asked him about the jumpseat/CASS issue. He stated, much to our surprise, that CASS will be up and operational in 2-3 weeks, but it will only allow other airlines with digital pictures of their crewmembers to jumpseat with FedEx.

It's about freakin time! I'm sick of the "So when are you guys....." questions when I go offline. I guess everyone forgets about the FDX discount they get on shipping as a consolation prize.

There's the rub. NO other airline has the digital photo setup. I doubt they would spend the money just so their pilots could ride on us. Also, Off-line J/S riders would only be allowed in the back. Thay could have been doing that for a couple of years. CASS is not required to ride in the back (courier compartment). Only in the Cockpit (COCKPIT Access Security System). Once we had the secure doors we could have been taking off-line pilots.

FDX wants us to expend negotiating capital to get cockpit jumpseats back.

How 'bout this: "OK, you can give cockpit jumpseats to other pilots but no retro-pay. Expect to see this sometime in 2006.

Go to our local MEC website and read the letter that Mailiniak wrote concerning off-line jumpseats.

If you are sick of it then.........

I believe AA and Eagle have the digital photo setup where the passport picture page displays .

a real quick (and inherently dumb, but i'm not in the 'know' about these things) question: can FedEx/UPS guys jumpseat or fly stand-by for free on major airlines that their company has an agreement with? i'm not familiar with jumpseating or how different airlines are networked. i'm just curious if the FedEx/UPS guys have to live near the airport they're based out of or if they can commute for free, similar to an airline pilot.

If you are sick of it then.........

I'm sick of the fact that I have to explain that it is not up to me. I am always greatful for a ride. You'd think that an educated pilot would be able to deduce the fact that my opion has no effect on management holding offline jumpseat access hostage.

As if nobody else has ever gone through this....

As if many many major carrier pilots were carried for YEARS without reciprocal rights, until sometimes after 3 or 4 contracts, they were able to get them back. NWA, DAL, and others. ASA got it back in 1998.

As fellow professionals, these guys were carried by everybody else. But back then, we were a part of something bigger than ourselves. Sadly I don't think that's the case anymore.

Sundown, PM me your name and your carrier, and I'll make sure not to ask you for a ride.

Huck...take a deep breath.....now relax. I was telling your purple buddy that if he doesn't like questions from guys whoes airplane he is bumming a ride from then don't go. It's about freakin time! I'm sick of the "So when are you guys....." questions when I go offline. I guess everyone forgets about the FDX discount they get on shipping as a consolation prize.....Are you kidding me. If I were from Memphis and had to commute I would give you some good natured ribbing if you were riding on us. Bottom line Huck, if you are so sensitive to queries about your jumpseat then you might not want to ride offline. I don't mind if your on our planes.....but would you mind taking my package with you on the way out..I hear we get a discount? I'm kidding dude. Everyone is welcome at B6. Now get some sleep.
