I'll be starting class at FedEx in a couple of weeks and was wondering about their jumpseat rules for newhires. With my new hire letter and pilot license can I jump seat to MEM before the start of ground school? I'll have turned in my old 121 company ID before then, so I was just wondering if I should buy an airline ticket or drive out? Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure they will not let you J/S without a company ID. They are very security conscience at FedEx. Anyway, I would highly recommend you drive out there - you will need a car while you're in training.

Good Luck

Where have you been for the last 5 years. J/S with a letter........LOL.

Wolfman, just curious, what was your total time and turbine PIC when you got hired?

Until you have a company ID and have been entered into the system, which you won't until you get there, no jumpseat. You will need a car while in training so you might want to consider the drive.

Thanks for the info...that's what I thought.
Total time when interviewed: 5700
Total turbine/jet PIC: 3100
Hope that helps.

Wolfman,
It is true you can't J/S w/out a company ID, but I'll add this much:
As soon as you get the ID (first week of new-hire GS) you CAN jumpseat, even though you probably won't be able to login to VIPS. So As soon as you get an employee # (first day) start setting up your J/S reservation back home for that first weekend by calling J/S Reservations. You'll have the ID by the time the weekend hits, and you'll definitely want to get home that first weekend.
Hope this helps...
