Does anyone know if FedEx still offers interview to pilots who worked at the company in the past? I worked at FedEx for 3 years while in college and they told me that FedEx liked to hire from within and I would have an interview when I met the mins. But was also told the rumor of in the first interview you were told to go home and try again in 6 months just see how much desire you had to work there. I am currently an FO at a regional so it will be a few more years until the 1000 Pic turbine comes along but just trying to plan a little.

Thanks

Siuox: I don't know if you will get an interview based on the fact that you used to work for FedEx, I THINK you need to be a current employee to get the preferential shot at the interview. I say I think, because I honestly don't know. I do know that you will get to keep your employee number and those years I THINK will count as years of service for retirement, so there is certainly some benefit to having worked here before. If you could get back on and work part time while still building your time that might be the best way to ensure an interview. In either case, it won't hurt your chances and I think just the fact that you worked here for a while would look good on the resume.

The most important consideration, after meeting the min requirements, however, remains a solid recommendation from someone you flew with who currently works here. That, combined with your previous experience throwing boxes will certainly help your chances.

I personally haven't heard about them tanking internals initially and making them re-apply to test desire to work here. Can't say its not true, but I've never heard of such a thing. Any good company would look at a repeated effort as an indication of wanting to work there, and I think FedEx does look favorably on repeat applicants. I have heard of guys who made it on the second or third try.

Good luck.

If you are not a current PERMANENT employee of FedEx Express, the internal hiring process does not apply - - you are in the same boat as all the other "externals." I'm not sure what weight prior employment with FedEx will have in getting an interview, but the importance of FedEx Pilot References cannot be overemphasized.

The MINIMUM duration of employment to get the internal interview is 12 months, and if you don't get hired on that interview, the minimum wait to reapply is 12 months.

While recomendations are essential for externals, I found them to be almost irrelevant in the Internal process. Relying on such referrals, or lack thereof, to offer or decline to offer the Crewmember position to a current FedEx employee that meets all of the published requirements for the job could be considered unfair treatment and a GFT (Guaranteed Fair Treatment) claim could be made against the company.

That's not to say that I wouldn't recommend getting recommendations - - they can't hurt. I guess what I'm trying to say is this: If you've worked as a handler for 12 months and you meet the requirements, don't panic because you don't have a pilot's recommendation. Your experience and dedication to the company earns you the interview. It's up to you to get the job.

Thanks for the input guys. I pretty much figured that the hire from within policy only counted if you were a current permanent employee. But I do have a pilot recommendation when I meet the mins. so I got that going for me. Anyways, its a long way off and thanks again for the input. Keep the shiny side up!
