Can anyone confirm the following information (rumor) obtained from
another web site ?

FedEx is hiring pilots but according to their System Chief Pilot will NOT consider any ACTIVE USAir pilots.

According to SCP Jack Lewis they sort resumes into 3 buckets:
1> Pilots who meet the minimum qualifications including 1000 hours of jet PIC and have not ever worked at a Major airline.
2> Pilots who have been furloughed and have been on the street for a while and who are unlikely to return to their previous carrier. (A few furloughed USAir and MDA pilots have got in this way.)
3> Active Major airline pilots including active USAir.

Jack Lewis stated FedEx has a "moral obligation to hire pilots who have not had a shot at the major airlines yet" which he considers a "fairness issue".

USAir pilots go into bucket 3 which unless there is a change to their hiring policy is the garbage bucket.

I would say it's a fairness issue all right. A guy or gal spends 15 to 20 years at US Air and has a wealth of experience but can't get hired because of it? This can't be true.

I don't know about the buckets and moral obligation stuff, but the part of your post that I've quoted above corresponds exactly to information I received second hand just a couple of weeks ago.

I do not agree necessarily with the philosophy, but I believe that it is being employed.

{EDIT} If I were a current USAir pilot seeking employment with FedEx, I would still apply. There's no guarantee the System Chief Pilot will always have this opinion, or that he'll always be the SCP.

Turbo Prop PIC is the same as "Turbine" PIC, doesn't matter if its prop or jet just as long as its Turbine.

It is my understanding that we ARE hiring US Air pilots but they are furloughed pilots, not active pilots.

Buckets are more like divided by...no LOR (not good), applicants recommended by recruits from AirInc job fairs (good), pilots with LOR and meet min's (better), pilots that meet min's and have a FDX pilot sponsor who introduces applicant to ACP and/or SCP (BEST).

You gotta get in it to win it...so apply:)

no bucket for Turbo prop PIC?
My partner on the freight run I fly, has no jet time whatsoever...he'll be at an interview in october and I have to work back to back shifts to cover for him (he asked real nice, plus he's a hell of a guy, how could I refuse?)...I hope to gawd he gets the job!

His stats are turboprop time only (P-3 and civilian Caravan)...not to mention a schit load of education. I was joking with him about syllogysims on the phone today...

Good luck to all who aspire to fly for FedEx...no matter where you come from!
