Hello-

I know that Cordova is a no no to buy in or if you have kids in school. But, is it safe enough to rent a house for 9-12 months until second year pay kicks in and/or the MOAB is sorted out. Not looking long term, there are just a lot of rentals over there and I want to make sure it is safe for my wife and child (relative to Memphis of course!) :-)

Thanks-

WOT

I've had 2 pads in cordova...both down off Dexter RD. I never had a bit of trouble out there. Pretty blue collar area with much shopping. Personally thought the closer to the Wolfchase area and right off G'town parkway were safe...for what it's worth.

Being from MEM, I would have to say Cordova is a pretty nice place actually. I belive your intel might be a little off. Stay away from North & South of Memphis. The farther east you go, the nicer. Germantown, Cordova, Bartlett. All nice in my book.

Thanks.

Thanks guys- I had heard that since the schools in Cordova were annexed (or being annexed, not sure) it was a real estate nightmare. Houses on the market for years, etc, etc.

Yeah, you're absolutely right about Cordova being a real estate nightmare - if you own a house there. But the area, in my opinion, is really great. You are close to highway access, shopping, restaurants, and Shelby Farms. If you don't buy there I don't think you can go wrong. Very safe in my opinion, and very convenient location, especially if you go to an area well north of the Walnut Grove Road construction nightmare.

Renting before buying in Memphis is a good idea as well - I have been in Memphis for almost 4 years and I am still debating on where to buy my next house....or, more to the point, what areas to avoid. If you had a year under your belt as a renter I think it would really help you learn your way around!

check out arlington

Check out Arlington, which is two exits East of Cordova. I live there now and it is nice. Mostly new construction, county schools, it's incoporated so memphis can't get their corrupt hands on us and the prices are still reasonable (but climbing quickly). There are neighborhoods from the 150's to build your own McMansion. 35 min to the AOC in normal traffic.
