I left a message for KD on Friday concerning whether or not I needed to renew my FE written that expires next month before starting class. She called me back today and said I did and I had a chance to talk with her for a few minutes concerning the pool. Here's the latest:

There are 63 in the pool right now. The plan is to start training up again in March but it all depends on the bean counters okaying the money. She wasn't sure if classes would be 8 or 12. I asked where I was in the pool and she said she couldn't tell me exactly since they typically pull from the pool in the order you interviewed but that is not set in stone because they have to sometimes squeeze in guys transitioning from the corporate side. She told me I was in the last 1/3, so it would probably be May, but it could be as late as July, before I start. I interviewed the 23/24 September, so that gives the rest of you swimmin with me an idea of where you might be. I got the impression that things can change pretty quickly, as with what happened with addition of the November class.

P3Tarbaby,

Thanks for posting the good info. I will be taking my FE written again soon as well, as mine expires next month also (so much for planning ahead, right?). Off to ALL-ATPS to dump 3 bills.

Anyway, I interviewed mid-July, and from my PURE W.A.G., I figured I'd be between numbers 16 and 37 on the "real list," which would mean March/April, which I think jibes with the info you got.

Good luck w/ FEX.

LEROY,
Your numbers sound about right judging by what KD said. As for the FEw, when I took it the first time I studied a prep book for 2 weeks and paid $70 at the flying club to take it. I think I'll do the same thing this time and save the $$$.

Thanks for that info P3... I wonder, with as many as 63 in the pool.... and only 8 to 12 in a class.... and class not starting till March... it could be as late as Sept or Oct before new hires could expect a class then, wouldn't you think?

I read in their Anual report that they expect the economy to stutter in the first quarter then start to pick up.... if this is their forcast... then it would follow that the "bean counters" are gonna base hiring funds based on how accurate this forcast is... so lets pray for a recovery! ... and no ugly war in the middle east that jacks up oil prices!

By the way, if any of you guys are looking for a crashpad for when you start training, see my post on the crashpads board at the bottom of the homepage.

V70T5,
If classes are 8-12, that is 16-24 per month through the school house since they usually run two classes a month. At that rate, the pool should be drained in 3-4 months after they start up. So new poolies could possibley start in June or July if all goes well. Jan - Mar are typically slow, at any airline, not just Fedex so if the economy starts to pick-up, things could accelerate. If we go to war, who knows. The economy will likely stay the same or worsten but if there are military recalls, it will be interesting to see how that affects the number of 727 SOs. Only time will tell.

F18-FDX,
I may be calling you as I will need a crash pad. Later.

Thanks P3... that doesn't sound so bad now..

Was there any word on when they might start interviewing again? I've heard possibly March?

Thanks,
Otis

Hey Folks,
Not to be a total drag, but I have to wonder why everyone keeps thinking "if we go to war"? Folks, we are going to war despite the Germans, French, Turks, Sri Lankans, etc. Bush doesn't care and has said so. The words, "we will go it alone" pretty much sums it up. With two more carriers headed to the Gulf today, I would say Bush ain't countin on using land bases anytime soon. Once the iron starts falling, the gulf states will come around. Sure, oil prices will skyrocket, but once we own the oil fields (second largest next to Saudi) we will be pumping our SUVs (and Jets) at 50 cents a gallon! Okay, sorry for the sarcasm, but let's be realistic, a war is a comin' and it will be the last nail in the coffin for U and UAL and will cause at least two more bankruptcies (my guess is CAL followed by AAL). Flame away!

What's there to flame... you're dead on pal... make me wish I voted for Gore!

United and USAir were toast before Sept 11. Their demise has nothing to do with Iraq. Likewise for AMR who is looking a little ill lately. In the meantime, LUV and Jetblue are still making money despite everything. If you think Al Gore could fix the problems endemic in companies like United, you're dreaming. Evolution in the airline industry is a constant. I flew with a guy today whose father worked for two airlines that went bankrupt. Ever hear of Eastern, Braniff, Pan Am, TWA, Western, Ozark, National....... It isn't the job of the President to run airlines, and he certainly doesn't need to form his foreign policy around the impossible task of keeping floundering companies afloat. It is a fickle business, and anyone who makes their living doing it better have a plan A, B, and C. No matter who they work for, or who is sitting in the White House.

If you look at the EEK next to the word Gore "" that implies a lack of seriousness... I wouldn't vote for Gore for many other reasons.... however I think Bush's foreign policy with regards to Iraq and the Middle East in general is flawed (badly).

Also, I have enough education in business and finance to understand that presidents don't have effect on economies as much as most political pundits want us to think. The economy goes in cycles (business cycle) and those are going to be either shallow (1995/6) or deep 1991 and 2000-200X...

BUT.......

Declaring (or starting) a War war over chemical weapons that can't reach us while letting Korea with it's nukes and missile technology (imported from China) make threats while we backtrack on their "evil" status is simply hypocritical and quite embarrassing.

Thanks for your insight in to this anyway Rock.

Well, since this site isn't called Politicsinfo.com, I'll refrain from further comment. Also, since you obviously have good taste in cars, I'll spare you anymore of my brilliant insight. I just have a reflexive vomiting impulse anytime I see the word Gore.

Good taste goes a long way.... as for Gore... I too get the same reaction... which tells you how mad at Bush I have to be to make such a comment...
