Anyone seen the breakdown on the FED EX hiring? Have thay hired any civilians lately or is it all military?

I've had 29 clients get hired at Fedex so far this year....4 were with civilian backgrounds. The ratio of civs to mil is higher than that, it just works out this year a bunch of my mil guys were hired. I get a lot of military referalls so it makes sense that a lot of my folks are militiary. However, I've got several "all civ" guys still waiting on the good news--they haven't gotten a "no" response so I think they are in there once background checks are complete.

I've had civ guys from corporate backgrounds, USAir, Pinnacle, Mesaba, Skyways, and Mesa get hired here. Yes...the mil guys have networks and we do pretty well. Guess what...we also hire quite a few civies too. For what its worth, my IOE instructor said his best F/O students were CL 65 guys... (It certainly wasn't me!)

Key to getting at FedEx is network and get a guy who has FLOWN with you and knows your act to help you get an interview. If we really do hire another 500-700 by 2005, you'll get your chance. Keep the faith and keep networking.

By the way, Fokkers, and this is a secret that only the military guys know, Fedex is only one word. Ya might wanna make sure you spell it right before you send your resume in.

The only reason I made a remark about the civ/mil thing was because the guy that started this thread said something silly. Then you piped up with the "gifted job thing. Whatever bro. I'm not going to get into that garbage. If you've got some pent up hostility about it, get over it. And if you are a FedEx (notice big E) guy I'd think you would've known better than to perpetuate the civ/mil thing when there are a ton of civilian guys coming in the front door.

But, whatever, enjoy your hubturn tonight. And, don't eat the popcorn, it makes you drop over the day after your 60th birthday.

Fokkers&beer - 5 other people interviewed with me recently. 3 military, 3 civilian. It looks like five of the six will be hired. Everyone had used connections (not necessarily senior ones) to either meet the CP or get some online letters of rec. It seems to me that the company is aiming for a pretty good mix right now. Spanky: Yes they will and they have. Up to now its only been those furloughed from USAirways however. The rationale for that has been beaten to death many times on this board. It probably won't change any time soon, so if you are furloughed from a different major and you want to fly for FedEx, you need to go get a job with a regional (or any other carrier) and then apply.

Having taken a job with a different carrier removes the F stigma because the current informal policy is against furloughed pilots, not employed pilots. I guess they figure if you are willing to leave a CURRENT job for FedEx you will likely stay with FedEx should your original recall ever come up. I have met a lot of folks from Pinnacle and for some reason they seem to get hired here in pretty significant numbers.

It might suck to take a step "backward" and fly for a regional in order to fly for FedEx, but in the long run it might be your best route to get here. No guarantees of course, but if you are furloughed I would think it would be worthwhile to at least try to get on with a regional and then apply at FedEx.

You could also try to get an instructor job here for the 3 years and then get to go to the line, or throw boxes at a ramp somewhere. There are some ways around the furlough issue, but they require some work and time, which may not be palatable for some.

Just some thoughts.

Most of the civies at the Company don't have chips on the shoulders like these two guys. They have the right to argue about capital "E"s. They paid thier parents money for their training and they have made sacrifices to get where they are, unlike the military guys, right?

A quick check to your left shows that I've been coming here for almost three years.

I used the vast amounts of information available here to form a winning strategy for my FDX interview. I owe my job in part to guys like Albie, Goose and the others who generously gave me advice here.

This information was all free to me, and therefore I felt an obligation to stick around and give advice when I could to other interviewing professionals.

In the beginning, I also went to the "General" board, until the waves of idiocy pushed me back down here.

Now, it seems, the camel's nose is in the tent in this forum. So here's the deal: cut out the sorority-girl bitch slapping or I quit. And I bet I can take a few with me. Can we clean this s##t up or is this forum going to be as worthless as all the rest?

Anyone with more than their probationary year under their belt knows that there is good and bad coming from both sources of pilots. My favorites are those that did BOTH - started in the military, then had a passenger airline like Eastern or Braniff teach them finesse. You can tell those guys - they handle the plane like their grandma was walking down the aisle.

And for the record, pop did not pay for one hour of training. He wanted me to be a lawyer. The only person that helped me pay for my flying is the lady still sleeping upstairs, and now she gets to stay home with the kids. If that makes me less worthy so be it. I'll be dutying in about 2 pm today if you want to discuss this face to face. Have them page Steve.

To get this back on track. 500 - 700 over the next 2 years. And a CP I was talking to the other day thought that to get the required number of folks to interview for those numbers, they will probably eventually have to abandon the "unofficial" pre-interview interview. (Then they'll just go back to calling up all the military outfits to see if anyone is ready to get out and get a job. Then go to the pile of applications. Just kidding, as in a joke for all the humor impaired.) You'll still need recs from the inside to get the call though, but at least travelling to MEM to meet and greet will not be high up on the to do list.
