Pan Am in Miami has an A300 sim, and they know the Fedex profile. I used them and I highly recommend it. Seems like it was $475/hour or something.

Folks,

If you are going to do a FedEx interview, good prep is important. However...don't get overly intimidated! Success rates walking in the door are in the 65-90% range depending on the group. They WANT to hire you when you walk in.

If I had money to burn for a sim, I'd find an operation that has an A300 or A310 somewhere....that is what you will get your eval in 9 out of 10 times.

As for the interview workup...well...I'll let others on the board speak if the Emerald Coast Interview prep was worth their time. (Percentages do go way up....) The biggest point I'm trying to make is if you get the call, do your homework, but don't freak out. Its not the most "fun" interview you'll ever have but it is certainly not a "hostile" interview. The biggest challenge is that when you go through, you'll get a lot of blank stares and non-committal responses during your SBI (Situation Based Interview), and many guys wonder who they are doing, and the sim and tests are likewise zero feedback events (other than the call saying yes...you passed the sim...)

BTW.....one of my primary interviewers was Warren Travis, an MD-11 Captain who is about to retire. I still chat with him whenever I catch him in the AOC. The PROCESS at FedEx can appear to be a bit cold, but the PEOPLE behind the process are all actually pretty nice folks.

Now...lets all hope the hiring train gets rolling again soon!

If all goes as I hope (and expect), you'll be hearing from me the minute they hiring process picks up...

thanks again folks... and do keep us posted as the the latest hiring rumors(facts).

Just to throw in my own recommendation, for those of you out there hoping for that interview call, once FedEx picks back up:

I used Albie15's services. I checked around at AirInc and Case to see about their services as well. Those I spoke to who had used AirInc's FedEx interview prep said AirInc spent more time probing them for gouge then providing anything worthwhile. The one I spoke to who used Case said it was not a bad interview prep, but not specifically for FedEx. It was more of a generic interview prep.

I used Albie15's services. What he had to offer me was exactly what I saw on my interview. Everything from atmosphere of the interview, what to expect during each part, clothing to wear, what to spend my time on preparing, and specific types of questions I would be asked during the panel interview. He knew the sim profile... and spent well over three hours on the phone with me going over interview questions and how I should prepare my answers.

Bottom line... Albie15's services were well worth the money spent. And was by far the cheapest price out there for interview preparation.

Regards,

Kav

I used AirInc also for my American Interview and turned out I got connected to a Guy who works for ASA and he wanted to know if American was still hiring 100/month??????

Trust me, Albie15 is the source for Fedex prep, I've heard it from more than one sources... I'll be calling him if I'm privilaged to be called by them.

Regarding the sim time when warming up for the sim check:

My own opinion, of course... but the main goal if you are paying for sim time is two fold:

1. Get the feel of a heavy jet
2. Get your crosscheck back up to speed

If you can get into an Airbus...all the better. But we are not talking peanuts here when it comes to sim prices. FedEx isn't looking at wether or not you can fly an Airbus. They are looking at how well you can use a crosscheck and strive for perfection. I scammed a 15 minute period of free time and a 30 minute free period in our C141 sim with my reserve unit... covered up the extra glass stuff, and simply practiced climbing/descending S turns... turning direct to a holding point while slowing down... and descending in the holding pattern. The first day, it was very apparent that I had been flying glass and flight directors with an autopilot hooked up a great deal of the time. The second day, my crosscheck had already greatly improved in speed and everything went alot smoother.

I know of some guys who used Simuflight in Dallas for sim time as well. I know just about everyone out there who is looking for a job will drop thousands of dollars to try to eliminate the slightest hickup with the interview process. I'm just trying to give you an alternative to dropping a bucket of cash on one specific type of simulator. In my opinion, any simulator will do... as long as it is a heavy sim, and you only use the basic raw data for your practice.

Save yourself a little cash and shop around.

Regards,

Kav

This is important as the heaviest jet I've flown was the CRJ at 51000 and While I understand that all planes fly somewhat the same... the deck angle and low speed is what I'm not used to with the heavy stuff..

That is what the local Frasca sim here is for... I plan on spending 2-3 hours practicing the basics in one before I hit the big iron sim...

My biggest problem is our entire fleet is 100% Glass, no steam anything in the planes.. So I am worried about the adjustment period for the steam guages..

Expect to hear!!

If all goes as I hope (and expect)....

V70T5,

Holy carumba, are we excited or what? I too believe in gathering every detail of information and getting my "ducks is a row," but I'm not overly optimistic I will hear anything this year. It serves me right for delaying my application with them. Oh well.

You mentioned that you “expect" to hear from them. Obviously a connection here. But really, out of the 70 or so pilots that are hired this year, how many do you think will have connections? I’d say three times the number hired will have had their application “walked in.” By the way, I too am "expecting" to hear from them on day one.

Don’t get me wrong bro., I hope you get called right after me. I just wish I could share in your optimism. Must be the Yankee in me. We're too cold to be happy. Good Luck, I hope to meet you this spring!

Go back and re-read all my postes on thes message board... I've always been an optimist...

on the economy- optimist
on the airlines- optimist
etc...

I don't know any of you, and this board is more or less anonymous, so I can speak my mind here.... but don't miss understand me, I expect a lot.... and I rarely get it, but.. if you never expect anything... you should never get it! Get it?

As for delaying your app.. with your quals.. It shouldn't matter..

Ah...no, I don't get it.

I expect a lot, and rarely get it...........from my wife.

I'm still trying to figure out the latter portion of your statement. Lets see, I don't expect to get hired by Jet Blue. But does that mean I should not be hired? I should have studied harder in school.

No it's just a state of mind that I live in... some people are the opposite and they prefer to think that nothing is gonna happen and then they are plesently surprized... I operate better if I think I'm gonna get it, then if I don't (and I usually don't)... I quickly recover... I prolly shouldn't have used the word "should" as that made it sound like it's my way or the highway..

I hope you don't think that I am presumptuous for it? cause that's not my intent.

Anyway... the guys here have been very helpful and motivating, now I just have to pray that I get called.... and then pray that I do well enough to get the job (after all that's the goal, not the interview).

I agree, the guys on this board have been very helpful. I hope that someday I can help future pilots as they have helped us. :)

Good Luck V7. Nice car BTW.

I'm sure you'll get the chance... I am also sure with your quals you'll be in that position sooner than you think..
