I know this topic has come up many times before, but with Fed starting hiring again, it might be a good subject. I was just curious about QOL issues, i.e., how many days a month does a reserve or line holder work a month (on average)? What is anticipated hiring over the next few years, job progression, etc. Thanks for any insight...

FedEx bid month is either a 4-week or 5-week bid month.

Reserve: 4-week month - 15 days on and 13 days off
5-week month - 19 days on and 16 days off
Lineholder: 4-week month - anywhere from 16 to 13 days off
5-week month - anywhere from 20 to 16 days off

It is very difficult, if not impossible, to forecast upgrades. Right now there are individual upgrading to Capt in the MD-11 in ANC in 8-9 years. But they were fortunate in their timing with FedEx and the growth we have had over the past decade. Right now I would say if you are hired, you can expect two years on the panel, 3-4 years for widebody F/O, 7-8 years for Capt -727, 10-11 years for ANC Capt MD-11, 11-12 years for widebody LAX or MEM. But these numbers could change drstically with expansion in China and/or Europe, changes in fleet, and economic growth.
