Some people have a fear of flying. You guys may laugh at this, but I think an ideal way to overcome that fear would be to take a few lessons!!!
For instance, the few times I've been aboard a commercial airliner, I can remember a few "bumps" that scared the crap out of some passengers, and even made me think "that can't be good". Then I started taking lessons....
One day the little Cherokee was getting shoved around so bad I couldn't even come close to maintaining a heading. We kept getting forced up and down and at times my stomach went up into my throat. I looked over at my instructor and asked what he thought about all this. He said "it's just light turbulence". Light???????? I could've described it as severe!!! Clearly my instructor was not very worried about it, and with that neither was I.
Compared to that little "bump" on the airliner, what I experienced that day was insane, and no doubt would have absolutely terrified your typical passenger. But as I learned, it was really not a big deal and was actually just an annoyance. So the next time I'm aboard an airliner, I probably wont even notice that little bump, and if I do I wont think anything of it. So too would your typical reluctant passenger if only they would take a few lessons........
