Any words from the new hires from BC or JL regarding future hiring.

Additionally, any chance of getting the pool updated for FDX.

For any guys wondering, Memphis might not be great, but it beats the hell out of Kuwait.

my read on it...

I posted a few days ago that JL said the finance geeks were saying no new bodies this year, but he said we are short on dudes now and it isn't getting any better.

I flew with a training captain tonight. He said the training department is gearing up. They have hired additional bodies and it would appear as though there were getting ready for more through-put.

What I think is this: everyone is getting ready. The economy is rebounding quite well for FedEx. Our current planes and crews are getting stretched thin. When the "finance geeks" give the green light, I think the flood gates will open and stay open for awhile. The question is when. I think it will be this summer.

Just one lowly second officer's opion.

FWIW

I really don't know much of anything but I'll weigh in on pretty much what I hear when I am at work or through MEM. Being based in LA is starting to drag, I have never tried so hard to work and NOT be able to. We are pretty well staffed for any increase in flying thats for sure.

One thing everyone can almost agree on is there is NO WAY we can go through another peak season at our current staffing levels, especially in the back of the 72. I just looked at Open Time for S/O's and there are a ton of trips everyday to be covered.

So if we do the math..."X" amount of pilots out of training by the end of OCT...2 1/2 months of orientation and training and IOE...that means classes would have to begin sometime in July or Aug at the latest. This might not be what you want to hear, or maybe it is, but I think the current pool will be completely drained and an additional 100, maybe 150, new bodies on property by the end of the year.

Also, if this 73 program actually comes to life then there will be a major reshuffle of seats which will affect the back of the 72 the most. But as they say..."When I see it on property THEN I'll believe it!"

If you think I am way off due chime in but if you think I am close lets hear it.

Any of you guys that started class on Monday have anything to add?

I am still in the pool, but my buddy is in class. This is what he said...

All the Flight Ops types that spoke to the class had lots of positive stuff to say about hiring. They heard a bid was coming out for 40 widebody capts, and 200 new hires this year. Then, I guess they met someone from Schedule Planning, the guy that takes your equipment and seat bid. He said the finance geeks shot down the new bid, and said no more hiring for a while. He said even though the company is getting some more wide bodies from the desert, they still were not authorized to hire more or have the bid.

I have been a poolie for a year and a half, and heard every rumor possible. All I can say is it might look like a duck, and sound like a duck, but until it is painted purple and sitting on the ramp.... it ain't gonna happen.

Paddle, paddle, paddle.....

Purpletail, I don't know about you, but I got called out yesterday, and I've got 2 other trips this week, the ever popular LAX trip 1. But it was good seeing the new hires walking around the AOC yesterday, even my 58 year old captain was happy seeing them. Now excuse my while I try and get some sleep...

GRAB A TOWEL KIDS!!!!!

Alright ladies & gents, this is official word; two new-hire classes in June. One on the 23rd, one on the 30th. That part was confirmed wih an email to all 727 instructors. Here's the specualtive part: it could be as many as 24 per class (this from a very reliable source).
So all you poolies start heading towards the stairs, you're almost out!

SWEEEEET!!!! THANK THE LORD!

Hey, it's not nice to tell secrets in front of people!

:)

Where will you be for lunch tomorrow? You can tell me in person.

Sorry, Tony, no secrets passed worth posting. I'm jumping home tonight. But I'll be at ARTC on Sun afternoon eating lunch in the cafeteria (pre-orals).

Just talked to the head of S/O standards and he hadn't heard about June classes, at least not yet.....

I hope the rumors of two June classes are true. Except for the last day of April I was used every single reserve day I was schedualed. D@mn near 100% utilization. I have been off for the last three days and schedualing has called four times wanting me to pick up a draft trip. Sorry guys, but I dont have a day left in me. I wouldnt mind working every single RB day if they would let drop or move my days around. Last bid I put in about 50 requests to move or drop RB days...every one of them was denied due to "insufficent reserves." Not that anyone has asked but I would love to see some more guys on property this summer.

My buddy in class said the systems guy was told about two classes in June so just about everything is pointing that way except for the calls a.k.a. official word!
