Maybe their thinking about upgrading the fokkers and the atr's with rj's, which would be fine. anything less than 60k pounds is considered a feeder, anything over that number is flown by fedex guys.

what is the zfw and operational gross weight of an rj?

CR2 with 50 seats BOW around 31K

MAX T/O 53000
Lnd 47000

Right??

just curious, when do you guys plan to retire the 72?

At the last possible date that Fred can still get FAA approval to launch those noisy beasts over the American public.

I don't have the energy now to argue with the other cargo guys.

Start a new thread AFTER the Super Bowl, so we can all enjoy the game without any guilt!

Rumor, from high sources (really), is it will be around awhile. In fact they like it because it gets the freight to/from sort faster than the Airbus. (Maybe someone was playing a joke on me there, but that is what they said)

They don't care about fuel consumption. Cost factor entered on the MD-11 box is 200.

Hey...I resemble that remark.

Gotta love the slaveship. I wouldn't fly anything else (ever) if the company would keep them.

FedEx is strongly considering putting new engines on the 72 and flying it for a long time. In the meantime, buying up Airbusses as fast as they can. If one of the passenger airlines liquidates and airplanes come supercheap (not flaming, just the simple truth from management), that could change the plan. It's apparently very fluid right now. Who knows what the answer will be.

Never it sounds like. There are 89 272-200s and it sounds like those 89 will be around until they fall apart .... several times. I was told that in recurrent by the fleet planner guy. The -100s will go as they come for big mtc checks.

There's no way they'd ever use the CRJ for freight. Are you kidding me? Even if they could figure out how to cut a door big enough to put any real cargo through you'd never fit any kind of pallet in there, the ceiling is just too low / floor is too high, even if you ripped out the overheads.

That means you end up using it like a Caravan, with bags of freight and nets and even THEN you wouldn't get much in because you'd either DIM out or become weight restricted.

31,000 is a pretty average number for OEW, that's correct. Assuming you'd use it for short hauls to small cities, with a max ZFW of 44,000 Lbs you'd get only 13,000 pounds of freight in there, not to mention with the max Landing Weight of 47,000 pounds you're not going to get very far, maybe an hour down the road if you need an alternate, so you start dumping cargo for fuel??

If I remember correctly, the Caravan numbers are a hell of a lot better than that for that small type of lift and it can make a 400 mile trip probably within 20-25 minutes of the time a CRJ can make it. Why mess with the perfectly good system?

The CRJ just isn't efficient enough for much of ANY type of operation, except MAYBE taking out the overheads and converting it into a corporate aircraft on the cheap... Maybe a 20-25 passenger executive shuttle like that company up in Chicago is doing.

I'm wondering just how more cheap than a 604 you could get a CRJ lease INCLUDING a complete interior mod with FAA approval, bigger lav, bigger galley, extra fuel? Just my head trying to think of ways to use the 50+ CRJ's sitting in the desert right now and make some REAL money... ;)

As far as the mud throwing, I'm kind of p*ssed off that regional guys sign up for the pay they get 1st and 2nd year at most regionals, too. If enough guys would stop doing that, they'd have to pay more, it's that simple. I don't think I'd tell them I make $22k a month (if I ever get there), but the point got across: pilots deserve more, so quit your whining about low pay until you're ready to do something about it (like strike at the next contract opportunity or DON'T TAKE CRAPPY PAYING JOBS!).

As far as UPS / FedEx and whose pay is better goes, I don't really give a rat's a*s. I'd take either one, even though I wish the UPS starting rates were a little better... OK, a LOT better, please? :)

OK, time to go get some brunch with the wife then watch her drink a few beers and yell at the Seahawks... I have a HOT wife who LOVES football. Now THAT'S something to BRAG about! :D

Enjoy the game!

all the 100s at fedex will be gone by oct. unless they decide to put the new smoke barrier in them. uh.......don't see that happening.

OK Brown Tail I just got a call from CaptainMark wanting me to post what I made last year in the right seat of the MD11. Since he is too scared to go fly it himself I guess I will jump in and I know he has gotten the water HOT. I hate to post exact numbers but I was just short of what you say your captains make. And I mean just short. Most of my flying was intl which pays a bit more but not much. Now I'm on the chick machine with CaptainMark and hating it. Not sure why the numbers you have are wrong but they are. I'd feel bad for CaptainMark if he didn't have a smokin hot wife. Man he has the life. :pimp:
Pros/Cons of MD11 vs The Bus??

Actually, the CRJ was a concept designed for Fred Smith. It was to replace the Falcon 20 back in the days before regulation. Early into the project the business was deregulated and Fred could buy bigger planes for any route. He got out of the RJ deal by buying some of the Challengers used by Fedex corporate.

Or so I was told by some dude....

Good point. The guy made this statement comaplaining about guys accepting low pay and bragging about his $22,000 a year also stated in the same thread that he accepted $18,000 a year at his first job. How dare he do that and lower the bar. For shame.

So, you are complaining now when guys about the same age are accepting jobs for the same amount of money. What's the differnence?

Time out for both of you...

Besides, if Cappy Mark really did want to fly the big jet, he wouldn't be on the bus! So I doubt he cares.
