Hey just let everone know, a FDX DC10 just caught fire in MEM . And the crew escaped without harm as far as the news says. Hope the crew is fine. Looks like I will be flying this afternoon after all.

Looks like it suffered a main gear collapse after "hard landing". A/C slid off the side of the runway.

These are intial reports and not fact. Also reports of a possible cargo fire.

wow, check out the video of the crew hauling azz, rappeling down the nose

"witnesses" have been heard saying the gear collapsed, and the FAA says it "veered" off the runway

notice how long it took the emergency crew to get to the plane

"All reports, right now, now say it was a cargo fire."

I guess I should check all reports before posting. Hmmmm.

Sorry to ruffle any feathers.

I apologize. Glad that all are well.

Juan.

Didn't mean to jump on you Juan. However, it is "feather ruffling" when everyone jumps to conclusions. Especially, the boneheads on TV that don't have a clue what they are talking about.

On another note, it was shocking to see how long it took the fire trucks to get there. Almost as shocking as watching those guys throw there bags out the window. At least, that's what it looked like.

Apparently it was an MD-10 from OAK, with 7 people onboard, and all escaped unharmed. It also closed 2 runways at MEM. What was the weather like in MEM?

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes:

As bad as the reporters are, I'm surprised they didn't assume the pilots and additional crew were not throwing out their flight bags, but saving christmas packages!!!!

THIS just IN: "FEDEX crew single handedly SAVES XMAS"

Seriously though, from the video link posted previously, it looked pretty bad. I'm glad to hear that just four of the seven only had minor injuries.

Maybe I should try to pimp myself out as an "aviation expert" to the media? I wouldn't have to study up on aircraft types and I could use words like "Kanooder Valve" and people would hang on every word I say because I would be labeled as the quote on quote aviation expert. That would be great.

Man, I bet they get paid well, too. It's like listening to someone scrath their fingernails down a chalkboard.

Here's what some folks are saying on PPRUNE about the accident. Some of the posts contain information not mentioned here. The eyewitness statements on one of the later posts leaves no doubt that this accident occurred in Tennessee (Sorry to all you natives from the Volunteer state :D )
