Hello
Anyone have some historical info on how long before FDX calls for a class date after the interview? I interviewed in January and 2 of my squadrons called me the following week and said that FDX did the background check on me. Also, I did not get the dreaded thanks but no thanks letter...it's been over 10days now. Is that at least a good sign? "The waiting is the hardest part" so the song goes...

Thanks in advance for any info! BTW: FDX was a class act thoughout the process. They really have they're stuff together. Good luck to all! sean

Call LuggageWorksOnline or visit their website (Luggage Works Online ) and order your Stealth Next Generation Pilot Bag and the Ballistic Flight Kit. (You might prefer the "Ultimate Lightweight Cordura Nylon Flight Case at Crew Gear - - it's about the same, and a little cheaper.) Luggage Works will put the FedEx logo on the front and your name on the handle (for a nominal fee) and it'll last a long time.

Congratulations in advance!

:)

Historically...if you don't get "the letter" by day 10 then you're in BUT that is not always the case. It is just a matter of pushing the paper work though the system but you should be getting a phone call soon.

I believe training dates are being offered for the mid-March to early April classes.

Best of luck

The only guy I know that didn't make it after 10 days of no news was turned down because Pilot Recruiting caught him asking about his status on an open internet forum. . . .

Just kidding!!!

They send out the "bad news" letters fairly quickly (within a day or two); so No News is Good News!!

I would like to extend my early but cautious Congratulations!! It's a good time to get on board; Flight Operations has taken a big gulp of Kaopectate and we're all moving thru the intestinal tract at a pretty good clip!!

Enjoy the back of the Boeing, you won't be there for long!!!

Has anybody heard any word on the March or April FedEx classes? I'm in the pool and am eagerly awaiting a call!!!

Let me also offer my conditional congrats! No news within about 5 business days has been a solid indicator with everyone I know. I like Tony's way of putting it--but I also understand your agony in limbo. Just hang on and expect good news shortly.

If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you approach GOD for the recommedation letter? Did you dial 10-10-220, go to the Vatican and talk to the Pope, or some other private communication channel?

Be cautiously opitmistic. When I interviewed we had 1 guy get the dreaded letter ASAP, another at about 15 days. Three of us got the you're in call on Friday over 4 weeks after the interview, and 1 poor dude got the bad news letter the monday after we had all been offered jobs!...........

FWIW,

From my interview class, end of November, 1 guy got the rejection letter a week later. 4 guys got the good call 16 days after the interview. 1 guy got the good call after 20 days.

I know a guy personally who waited 6 weeks to get the good call. Something about a slow background check and the approving authority being on vacation. That was 3 months ago.

There is an urban legend about a guy who waited 4 months, quite patient in my opinion. Finally he got up the gumption to call and check on his status...then he got a rejetion letter two days later. Lost in the shuffle I guess.

Overall, I'd agree with both Albie and USN(how purple of me), it looks good but anything is possible. My personal opinion is that if you 'failed' the interview then your letter gets there in a week. If you pass the interview but your skeletons catch up with you then you get a letter around the time other guys are getting the good news. Just a guess from a Holiday Inn Express frequenter.

Having just gone through the process(February class date), I'm happy to entertain any questions about it, so fire away.

I've got a few of my own for the established folks out there:

1) Being in a Feb class, did I miss out on the bene's of this bid, or will I really do well because I'll be one of the first guys to hit the company fresh with all the new slots? Re-reading that question, it sounds rather selfish, but I'm just curious

2) Given the choice(not that I will be) between the -10 S/Oand the 72 S/O...any advice?

3) How big are the Eagles going to win by next Sunday?

Cheers,
Humble New Guy

If I was flying fighters somewhere, I'd go to the 10 in a heartbeat....then upgrade to the MD11. The 727 is a great bird...but no kidding...hard to believe...it will leave us one day. The MD 11 is the future, and if you learn the systems inside and out on the 10 you'll be in good shape for the 11 if that's what you want.

I know a lot of guys will disagree, however a lot of guys are NOT moving on the boeing right now (me included). Guys hang to stay senior, stay domestic, or avoid training. I would actually be "almost" as senior on a MEM MD 11 as I would on the boeing, and although I could hold more lines on the 727 the MD 11 (actually MD10) lines I could hold were arguably "better". IF we really keep hiring like predicted, I imagine a new hire could get an MD in a year or two...and if that is the case then what better place to learn big aircraft ops than the back seat of the -10?

Now...if you live in CID, GFK, or another city served by the boeing then all bets are off. Fly the 727. If you live in a major area (and why do I think you live in SAN?) then I I doubt you'll hold the "cherry" 727 lines you crave for a while. So why not "go big"?

and when you do hit the line, have a ball....this is a great gig. I'm proud to be here and I enjoy most of the guys I fly with as fellow crewmembers. No matter whatever you pick, you'll have a good time..

New Guy: If offered the choice, one thing to consider is the fact that more new hires will come in behind you if you are in the Boeing. That means that you will get off reserve quicker and able to snag "better" lines sooner. Most of the over 60 guys go into the back of the -10, its a shrinking community, and there will be fewer new hires coming on line. That all means that you will likely be stuck at the bottom of that list for the duration, until you can bid and get trained in another seat.

Now all that being said, from all accounts I have heard that the DC-10 is a great aircraft and everybody who has flown in it loves it. The lines are supposed to be better, I wouldn't really know, but I've heard also that flying the widebodies is like being at a totally different airline. No 30 minute turns, fewer legs and longer layovers. Not to mention the fact that the -10 is more automated and thus the S/O job is much simpler. It has been described to me as "deadheading between preflights" by those who plumbed it. Learning the systems as Albie mentions is another plus for a tour in the -10, assuming you will eventually move into the -11 at LA.

What is awesome is that you might have a choice, and only you can decide which of those scenarios is best for you. Despite the rapid movement right now, even if a new hire does hold the right seat of the Boeing on the bid on Monday, it will be almost a year before they hit training and thus will be in the Boeing for a year anyway. So just consider how you want to spend that first year (or two) and give it a shot.

Congrats on the call, now hurry up and activate!

Sean: Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Some numbers to chew on:

First Year Pay Rates vs. Second Year Pay Rates

727 S/O - $49.86 / $63.86

DC-10 S/O - $49.86 / $75.42

727 F/O - $49.86 / $96.12

WB F/O - $51.69 / $117.28

The 727 isn't called the slave ship fer nuthin' - - my Mom could run the panel on the -10.

What's the difference between a DC-10 S/O and a dog???? A dog sleeps UNDER the table. :)

.

What are the numbers as far as how many are interviewed vs. successful and unsuccessfull interviewees? Thanks!

sean67 - don't worry. i waited 5 1/2 weeks before they called me. something about a background check. and this was just last month.

New FEDEX guy - when is your class date. i'll be there on the 2/28...

Megadeth-

During the interview they will tell you that they want to hire everyone in the group, and they will...you just have to give them a reason not to. I would guess that 75% of getting hired IS getting the interview and of the 6 per group interviewing I would say that 5 are getting hired. There is usually one in the group with a blimish on their record or a skelton in the closet...the company can be very selective right now.

Go Eagles!!

You better hope your number doesn't come up for one of those "Random Drug Screens"

I think if you admit your problem (crack), prior to your test, you get free treatment, and get to keep your job!:D

Albie,

You Eagle guys are sharp, but I think you rely too much on your blade count. Care to wager a dinner at Rendezvous as to whether you can truly ID me?

Contrary to the previous statemtent, I'm not gay...'not that there's anything wrong with that'.[JS]

Why sleep during the hub-turn, when you can sleep on the plane....
