There are a million posts on the subject.. including a "step by step" guide.. seach around.. its been done before.

never understood the purpose of this license.

unlike the training required to get a driver's or pilot's license, this license is just something you apply for and automatically get (unless it's now changed)

It is required by international regulations (ICAO), and said regulations don't require any testing or training. Since it is required and the government is the only issuing source, they are naturally going to extort some money out of you...

And I have never been asked to show one in any of my international flying, which is a good thing since I do not have one.

fcc.gov...just make sure you get the Restricted Radio Operator's Permit (RROP)...should take about 5 minutes and 55 bucks or so.

FYI - I think it took about 10-14 days to get mine, so not too bad considering it's a gov't agency...
