Ouch! Yet another illustration of the importance of checklists.

This appears to me to be an assumption not a recommendation. The flavor of my orignal response was due to my contempt for media and non-aviation types to jump to conclusions and mislead the rest of the sheep. It really lights a fire in me when those in this profession/community do the same. Aviation is misunderstood enough without help from within! Try being pro-aviation, it's good for everyone!

To bring the thread back to something more interesting than use of checklists here is an article from the BBC Link

Jet makes emergency landing

An executive four-seater jet was forced to make an emergency landing at Stansted Airport in Essex because its wheels would not lower for landing.
The Falcon 900 jet, which was carrying two crew and two passengers, touched down with no landing gear at 0118 GMT on Monday. No-one on board was hurt.

The aircraft, en route from Tanzania to Luton in Bedfordshire, was diverted to Stansted after reporting a problem.

The runway was closed until 0530 GMT while it was inspected for damage.

A spokesman for the airport said some early flights may be delayed.

Essex Police said the Air Accident Investigation Bureau had been informed of the incident.

Hey Falcon, betcha you didn't know you where driving a 4 seater:)!!

What I did is give a general reminder to pilots everywhere: Use your checklist- Hours and age and stuff dont come into play here- Everyone knows that a lot of gear-ups, and accidents in general could be avioded by properly utilizing the checklist at all times.

Thank you, I will now use my checklist.....

Those must be some HUGE seats if they could only get four of them into a Falcon 900!

This is the "misleading the rest of the sheep" that TZRav8r spoke of.

That must have been a tough decision to make...

Deciding you have done all you can before you put a $30+ million bird in on her belly. I don't envy that crew one bit.

Vice president OF WHAT??

Perhaps "waspe" should be your treasurer..he still has millions left over from his cargo company, there is "Whirlybird" he could be your secretary, and "Archer",well....he doesn't really know if he wants to get involved yet, there really is a lot to consider.:)

Unfortunatly every once in a while a crew neglects to use the checklist, and thats when accidents occur. And citationpilot is my vice president.:)
Hey AviatorCentral... Perhaps you should have a little "Heart-to-Heart" chat with your "Vice-President" CitationKid... He may be able to give you a little advice because you seem to be heading down the exact same road he has already been down (and has the scars to prove it)...

I think you should get just a tad bit more experience in Aviation in general before you come on here in the mindst of several thousand professional pilots and make an ass out of yourself trying to act like you know far more than you do...

Consider this your "Friendly Advice" from the Cap'n...

Cap'n, be easy on him, maybe the captain was getting blown and forgot to call the before landing checklist. It could happen!

QUOTE]I wonder why the "wheels would not lower." They are hydraulic, right?[/QUOTE] AviatorCentral

Well Av Central there.......its..... oh forget it. Someone else 'splain it to him. I've got to go fly a plane with a hydraulic gear that I know can suffer from a number of malfunctions that would prevent it from extending.

For those of you who may be willing to know the truth, it was a mechanical malfunction.

Aircraft diverted because of this, and crew requested the Stansted RWY to be foamed.

So what the hell is a checklist anyways?

INCOMING!!!!!!!!!! (running for cover)

I love the GA folks here. It's funny, depending on what type of checklist usage was bored into your head as a student, you'll either see the checklist as something to save your ass, or something that is a mere nuisance.

it's saved my ass before....:D

It's a list of all the checks that your checks that have bounced. :p

WOW. 12 pages, for real? We have a single-page double-sided normal checklist, and I thought it was fairly lengthy for operations. That is quite a checklist. What types of items do you have to make it that lengthy? Not flaming, just curious.

That's gotta be a FSI checklist...

The FSI King Air Checklist has 46 items (3 of which have expanded procedures on other pages) JUST for the "Before starting Engines" checklist.

The Normal Procedures checklist is 20 pages without the expanded procedures. It's pretty large type though.:D

It isn't an FSI checklist, it is an in-house, home grown one... It is in the Flight Safety folder/book thingy though... We have several fairly lager charts and such for things we need quick access to... If you took all of those out, it would be down to about 8 pages, remember these are those short little 1/2 width pages.... (7" x 4 1/2")... Flight Safety's checklist (Normal) for the 900EX is a joke...
